Bump, this thread died after the official launch Wed.

I'm personally waiting for a preorder thru verizon then the X shall be mine. The thread will definitely pick up again once a few people here get theirs. I'll be sure to do some impressions & comparisons to my Droid and the Incredible (though I no longer have it).

FYI, the new Alldroid.org will be giving away a Droid X to one lucky developer, selected by community members. Go vote for Koush so we can get Cyanogen Mod the X.

Holy hell, will do asap. I plan on getting an X and pray every night that Koush will make CM work for it. If it can be rooted that is...

I don't get the complaints that the Droid X is too big. I just went to preorder the X and was playing around with the Incredible and the Evo and even the Evo still seems kinda tiny, despite being physically wider and thicker than the X.

I'd be interested to see how it compares to the EVO since they have very similar form factors. Improved battery life over the EVO could be a big win for the X.

Also I'm not sure if this info is in your links, I didn't have time to read them.

The first review from Phonearena claimed the battery life on the X is very good. I'm not sure how accurate this is but:

The 1540mAh battery included with the Motorola DROID X is rated to provide up to 8 hours of talk time or 9.5 days of standby time on a full charge. During our testing, we were able to get up to an amazing 9 hours and 30 minutes of talk time on a full charge, which completely blows away the Motorola DROID at 7hr 30min talk time (1400mAh battery), and crushes the HTC Droid Incredible at a measly 5hr 30min talk time (1300mAh battery). Furthermore, the larger battery on the Motorola DROID X was able to provide it up to 30 hours of mixed usage on a full charge(which includes some talk, text, email, web, app usage, and standby), compared to just about 24 hours on the Motorola DROID, and 20 hours on the HTC Droid Incredible. Clearly, having a higher capacity battery on the Motorola DROID X is sure to come in handy.

He didn't test the EVO alongside the Droid X for battery life it seems but the stock battery sounds pretty good IMO with an even beefier batter coming out soon after.

^ Its not motoblur, they said something its something different.

What he did was at 100% charge called a number and let it run till it died. The DroidX has very good reviews on the battery life.

If the CPU can run it and start up the phone, it can't be that well encrypted :awe:

Do you mind clarifying what you mean by that? I've been keeping up with 3 or 4 forums on the Droid X and the most recent topic of concern has been the likely encryption of the bootloader, leading to the possible inability to root the device. It seems that a lot of people (including me) have now reevaluated their intent to purchase the X due to the likelihood of not being able to attain root...so if you can provide any insight I'm sure many of us would be grateful.

The most prevalent example I'm hearing is the Milestone's lack of root after more than seven months on the market.

Thanks for your help.

Do you really, really think this isn't going to be rooted? It is a matter of time.

That's what I'm hoping...I just don't know enough about it though...new to andriod. All the doom and gloom about the encrypted bootloader combined with the lack of root on the other motorola device with an encrypted bootloader just makes me wonder.

I have faith though...I just have no idea if that's due to my ignorance about the issue.

A signed boot loader doesn't prevent root, you can still get root access. The Milestone has been rooted.

http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-root-motorola-milestone-on-android-2.0-9140366/

However, because the Milestone also has a signed boot loader, the ability to load a custom rom is almost impossible, unless its been signed by Motorola. You can use root to install applications like Cachemate that require root access, however, you can not flash a custom compiled Android version to the device.

In case of the Milestone, this has severely stunted the development and modding of the phone when compared to the US Droid.

There are a few projects to gain control over the boot loader on the Milestone, but they're all pretty far from having a solution that's even remotely releasable to the public.

While I'm sure its entirely possible to open up the boot loader, its a question of time. If the Droid 1 had a signed boot loader and it was just broken today, it would effectively have killed development for it. We wouldn't have any of the highly refined and mature roms from Cyanogen, Pete, ChevyNo1, JRummy, etc because they wouldn't have been able to start until today. The Milestone has almost nothing while the Droid has seen phenomenal development.

OK, I just saw some more hype at infosyncworld.com about the Droid X.
I wish they were more like their namesake and provided info instead of recycles rumors and stuff.
http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/cell-phones/motorola-droid-x/11069.html

Am pissed they touted their cute little soft buttons as being superior when they released the Droid, and now they seem to think hard buttons are the way to go. Motorola is more wishy-washy than Apple.

Try this review:
http://phandroid.com/2010/07/02/motorola-droid-x-review/

It is not quite as well rounded as I would like (he gets carried away about the camera) but it has a bit of new details. This review is also fairly good:

A third one (not yet completed but looks like it might be decent when completed)

Much better.
I notice a lot of those features could be enabled on the old Droids with software updates, if they really wanted. Things like the battery manager could be really nice for everyone. And as nice as this looks I am NOT updated my phone from one generation to the next just so Motorolas stock can go up.

Also, it looks like that blockbuster app sucked balls. I wonder how long before we can get Netflix on our phones?

I have a feeling blockbuster will be bankrupt by the time the phone is released.
