damn, letstalk just updated me and they said it wont be instock till 09/23/2010

Damn, one more entire month? That sucks.

I'm still running 2.2 on my X and it works ok for the most part. There are a couple of annoying bugs but I'm liking the speed boosts and extra tweaks for the time being.

Droid X's battery life is definitely one of the most impressive things about it. After an 8 hour work day with pretty decent use, I can come home and have over 80% battery left with the stock battery.

On that note, I would love for Anandtech to have a smartphone battery life bench, kind of like their CPU and GPU one. Just a big list that they update periodically showing the battery life of all the smartphones doing stuff like web browsing, GPS, and phone calls.

Confirmed by Motorola that people running the 2.2 leak will not get an OTA update to the final version.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/30/motorola-says-leaked-droid-x-android-2-2-build-wont-be-updated/

Sounds like scare tactics honestly. Most people that have the leak are probably aware that they can go back to 2.1 at will and get the official update if they please. Then there's the fact that people will continue to make better ROMs with less bloat that Motorola provides.

In spite of that, I think the Droid X will be my last Motorola phone. They have the best hardware IMO even Apple doesn't pull stunts like this for jailbreakers. I still wouldn't be surprised if more manufacturers started doing this with their phones though. Android needs some more unification from this.

I couldn't wait 2 weeks for this phone to come out so I got a Droid 2. I was wondering if it would be worth it to sell my Droid 2 and get a Droid X when it came out?

They are identical, save for the screen size and slider keyboard.

the larger screen and the HDMI out was tempting me, but I don't know if I want to go through the hassle of selling the phone and looking for a good deal on the X

NOTE: If you apply the 2.2 OTA, you will NOT be able to SBF back to 2.1. Motorola implemented a new bootloader with new signatures and it will not accept going back to an older bootloader.

Not quite. The Droid 2 uses an OMAP 3620 vs the OMAP 3630 in the Droid X. Main difference is the ability of the 3630 to do 720p recording. The Droid 2 cannot. Anand discusses this in his review. Performance wise, they will be the same.

Moto likes the fail.

Wow, they had this long to release Froyo and they still didn't fix the broken battery manager that was messed up in the very first leaked Froyo. I was able to get it to open a couple times, but I just had it force close five times in a row. This is ridiculous.

Installed the newest Fission rom yesterday - absolutely awesome. Completely devoid of any and all Blur. I mean nothing at all. Same as a nexus one. Everything is so smooth and working right. Great battery life. Highly recommended.
