The D2 is just a model refresh from the D1 with some changes. So I think thats why that device hasn't been leaked as much lol.

D2 just seemed to address the major faults with the D1, such as the keyboard being almost entirely flat. Its mainly a slight evolution of the D1. If you want a smart phone with a hardware keyboard, it'll likely be top choice.

Compared to the Droid X, the D2 is more of a product refresh than anything else. I prefer a hardware keyboard myself, but I'm going to need a little more than just a minor bump to convince me to upgrade now. I'm still on contract for another 12 months though, hopefully, there will be some decent keyboard options this time next year.

Same, I mean if someone had a D1 I dont see it has a omg must have upgrade. I my self have a Storm 1 which sucks. the D2 will be a huge upgrade and I am going with a keyboarded phone again since my current phone really killed me on touch screen keyboards. Ill try out the X in the store once it comes out. If it comes out before the D2 that will be great but I dont think I am changing my mind.

Hate to sound spoiled by the quick advancement of android phones but..

This is such a minor step up from the Incredible that I can't get excited about it.

Seriously, not even a decent jump in clock speeds? I'd toss battery life to the wind to get near 1.4ghz or at LEAST a RAM boost.

You're looking at it all wrong. It's not using a Snapdragon, it's using an OMAP. It is much faster clock for clock. It also scores nearly double the FPS of the Incredible in the NeoCore 3D benchmark.

See where it says Shadow MB810? That's the Droid X running Android 2.1. See where it says HTC Incredible? Yeah...

Actually After owning the incredible I felt it was a minor step up from the Moto Droid. I had it for 29 days and I returned it because the only advantages were size and maybe senseUI (which I actually grew to dislike). Yeah it was a little snappier but the phone felt so cheap and the battery life was much worse than my Droid. Hopefully the Droid X will feel more like a successor to the original Droid mores than the Incredible did for me.

Wow, a lot of new folks in this thread.

I saw some people mention UNCjigga and this thread on a couple of other forums so no surprise there .

Couple of questions (UNC or others). Can you confirm if this phone takes sdhc and if so if it is hot swapped ? Do you have any negatives to this phones relative to competition (i.e, evo or galaxy s). My two concerns (assuming the phone aspect is fine and verizon doens't cripple it with software or inability to take software) are the odd shape (lump on back where camera is) and speed on verizon network. I noticed anandtech test of the incredible and is it safe to assume the very poor scores relative to iphone 3 were due to verizon network?

Anyways I'm currently on sprint with an non-data phone and since i can't upgrade there i'm thinking of iphone 4 on at&t, galaxy s (if on verizon) or driod x. I think all three of these might have better battery life than the evo but all lack in other areas (no front camera, might not be great phones - evo is a great phone , ...). I've played with a friends evo for a week and i'm mixed on the size; driod x is a bit thinner so if hte lump isn't a killer it might work better but it does lack front camera (minor) and might not be a great phone (major) and I've no clue how verizon will cripple it (i know with other phones they are anal with things as simple as ringers).

^ your last sentance

The majority of Basic phones (non smartphone) phones they put there own type of "VZW OS" on it which limits you with not being able to do stuff. With the smartphones they dont have that type of control since the OS is different, WinMobile, BlackBerry and Android OS both can easily set ringtones from files. As far as I know Winmobile and BB OS's are not limited at all. I think the android is pretty open as well and I dont think VZW will cripple it at all. Maybe tethering if it comes free and they want you to pay for it, but I dont see much.

Can anyone that has tested this phone tell me how the phone is on vibrate?
The HTC Eris doesn't seem to have a strong vibration meaning that when it is in my belt holster I can't feel it. I just wonder if the vibration will be better on the Droid X...

^ That was not a final build, Vid's are still non existent from this phone on public places ie youtube. I have seen pics from final hardware and they are great, no were near SLR or P&S quality but very good from a phone imo.

The first Droid X Commercial has been spotted! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOnC5chCag0&feature=player_embedded

However, if you look very closely, you can notice that at one point, a reflection in the eye says "DroidLanding." Interestingly enough, a new twitter account of the same name has been created, which has a bio that states "The next generation of does is coming soon, but you might get yours before that. Droid X phones are hidden across the country. Follow us for clues." See for yourself: http://twitter.com/droidlanding

Sources: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/21/new-droid-x-commercial-launches-looks-familiar/ and http://www.androidguys.com/2010/06/...al-arrives-twitter-easter-egg-included-video/

Interesting. I wanna find one.

UNCjigga, I have one question. The hump on the back is my only concern. How does the X feel in your hand compared to other phones? Does the hump rest on your finger and sit well. Or does it seem in the way? Is it awkward to hold, or no? I think the hump is a mini kickstands. Gives you a better viewing angle while the phone is laying on a table.

So any input or thoughts about use, function, and comfort as a daily driver for my next phone would be very much appreciated.. ill be coming from the Nexus One.
Thanks!

Maybe UNCjigga can use an app to verify what processor the phone really has? I'm not sure what app would work best though.

I hope it isn't a Snapdragon.

Well, supposedly it does in fact have a 1.0GHz SNAPDRAGON processor! And no, I'm not just saying that because of the now-removed tweet, but Droid-Life has now confirmed it with some of their contacts as well.

READ : http://www.droid-life.com/2010/06/2...-will-both-have-1-0ghz-snapdragon-processors/

Still unofficial though, but I thought the Omap part was confirmed by someone running quadrant test on it, I think its a bunch of hype, it has to have an OMAP. man crazy stuff . Or maybe the Prototypes are different then official?

We interupt this broadcast for a breakign new announcement!

Hehe...I always wanted to say that...

But the 'DroidLanding' Twitter page just updated again. Now its most recent 'tweet' is:

ATTN: Droid designate #5 escaped secure location 6 hours and counting. Witnesses noticed it heading in a southern direction.

Hmm...I wonder what that message is supposed to mean...

Time to put on our thinking caps!
