dropped cpu..bent a pin

k, so i accidentally dropped my 2500+ when i was sticking it in a diff pc. it bent one pin, as far as i can see, and didnt hit the core at all. so i bent the pin back as best i could, but when it sits in the socket, which it did go into w/o any force, it rocks a bit...ever so slightly tho. (on opposite corners of the proc.)

but, i dunno if the socket is just like that and it did it in the first place anyways. so i held down all four corners w/ equal pressure and then put the lever down, and course, now it doesnt budge..

i mounted my hsf and stuff and turned it on, and its fine..but should i be worried?

i was at a friends place when i did this and didnt have any other processors to test w/ to see if they rocked back and forth a little too.. and mounted the heatsink anyway cuz im not good w/ waiting...

if its necessary tho, i got a 1.33 ghz athlon here to test with if you guys think its nessary, tho im using an slk800u so its a bitch to do so..

on another note...anyone wanna buy my slk800u for like 30 bucks? i got a post in the member classified section..

The different mobo didn't happen to a DFI motherboard by any chance? If so, DFI has some defective boards on the market with warped CPU sockets. RMA the board if you have one.

THe socket moves when you put the lever down to lock it in place. therefore, im thinking that it is naturally loose before u lock the lever and your cpu should be fine. i mean how can the cpu just rock like that with such tiny holes to put the pins in? i say just try it up.

As long as it doesn't rock and sits flat when it's locked in you should be fine.

I have bent quite a few pins and bent them back with no adverse affects.

if anything, take the chip to a local jeweler; there is a guy i know who had the same thing happen to him, he got his microsoldered...

that pin won't break so easily. bend it back and it'll be fine. it's actually quite hard to break a CPU pin unless you bend it to one extreme and then bend it to the opposite extreme.

yep, everything turned out fine. thanks for all the replies.

unfortunately, my new psu is hitting 12.6 to 12.67 on my 12v rail...so i think i should return that...so im w/o a pc for another freaking week and a 1/2....erg...

For reference, many mobos have a temp sensor that sticks up to touch the bottom of the chip. If it's a little to high, it can cause the chip to rock slightly until locked in with the lever.
