Dropped laptop, screen is black

My laptop (HP DV2422) took a fall the other day and I think I might have killed the screen.

When I turn it on, I can hear everything boot up normally but the screen stays black. I notice that I can see a faint outline of the startup but it is extremely dark to the point where I can barely see anything.

I went to a local computer store and they said that they don't repair laptop screens and said my best bet was to contact my manufacturer to get it repaired. I got this laptop about 2.5 years ago so the warranty is definitely over. I see a lot of self-guides online for fixing laptop screens but I"m not sure if I want to endeavour on that route.

What are my options here? Any help would be appreciated

It sounds like the CCFL in your display somehow died. At best something came disconnected, at worst the entire circuitry for the display is fried.

If you really care about the laptop, send it to HP and pay the price. If you just want to get it fixed and don't want to shell out the cash to buy a new one, you can try checking Ebay for a replacement screen, or open it up and see if you can find the problem.

I think I'm going to go with sending it back to HP to make my own life easier.

First, look into:

-is the CCFL's power cord dislodged from the motherboard? This has happened to me before
-if it's still connected, you probably damaged your LCD inverter. A new one is usually around $10
