Guys,

I haven't been a part of the overclocking crowd in a while but this new CPU is just amazing me, I've never liked overclocking AMD's - as a matter of fact I've had a few that need to be underclocked to run stable

I'm unable to verify this, but I'm pretty sure this CPU is unlocked??? I'm running at 12.5x166@2088 air cooled right now. Is this normal or am I out of my mind? I just reinstalled Win2k (old one went corrupt during my testing somehow) and WCPUID is confirming my settings, it thinks I have an XP 2600 (166x12.5)...

EDIT:

OMG its at 2200 now, gonna try further....
Currentlying running a CPU burn in test at 2230... CPU Burn In utility has noticed one error - current voltage is set to 1.55 and and is maxing out at 43C under load with case open... Anyone know how far I can push the voltage?

obisdience that is sweet man! Like I posted earlier I got the *exact* same chip as u. So i should be able to hit 2200 easily on air like yours probably.

I'm gonna try for 11 x 200 FSB though. What motherboard and memory are you running? will they support 200 fsb?

hey darqice,

I've got an old stick of Crucial 256mb PC2100 I'm using right now, I think this is limiting me FSB-wise. I haven't been able to go above 180 though my motherboard (MSI KT3 ULTRA) supports well over 200.

At 2230, under load and with the case closed I'm maxing out at a temp of 46C which I think is quite amazing since I'm typing this on my dev machine (XP 2100 non overclocked) and it'll hit 65 under load (its 58C now).

I received mine a couple of days ago. I bought at $41 and got CoolerMaster 4210 PRO HSF for $13, no shipping total.

The mistake I made was think it would work in my Iwill KK266 mobo. Don't do it!! I haven't tried it yet but there are pretty extensive forum threads at http://www.amdmb.com/ that show it won't work with a T-bird B core.

Looks like Newegg is sellin B cores too... Good and bad for me. Now temporarily I gotta buy a KT133A mobo since I wanna buy a decent SFF in the future.

Doh.....

Well I broke down and went to Costco and picked up a 512Mb stick of Simpletech PC2700. I was able to push the FSB to 200 and boot however my OS went corrupt again (corrupt pci.sys). I'm currently reinstalling Win2k at 185x12.5 = 2320Mhz!!!

Just got another 1700+ TBred B Core. This one hits 2.2 GHz at 1.8 VCore w/ Air cooling. Very happy with the chip. I am giving my old one to my sister who isn't going to be overclocking it anyway. GL everyone.

It's a terrible choice, the KT133A chipset is inefficient by today's standards, even ignoring the PC133 memory, which is pretty hard to ignore since it further degrades performance. Then consider that the FSB may max out around 160Mhz, but the USB ports and HDD might malfunction at that speed, so realistically it'll probably run at 145MHz, at the max multiplier of 12.5X unless you enable the "+8" multiplier setting by burning through the CPU's bridge, which the board "may" not even support as per it's CPU table at AOpen website. So you'll have a max of 1812MHz of sub-par performance per MHz. If you wanted a dirt-cheap system and already have the PC133 memory it might be a fair board, but you can probably find someone willing to sell a T-Bred "A" or Palomino for less than $42, either of which may come near enough to 1812MHz. For little addt'l $ you could have a much faster system by using a slightly more modern motherboard and some (now commonly) cheap->free after rebate DDR memory.

Bought one of these last week.

AXDA1700DLT3C 4162157250159
JIUHB 0314MPM 1999 AMD

Have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev1. Doing 184 x 12.5 at 2300 Overclocked! Temps are 48C for CPU and 36C for mobo.
Seems better than the older 1700 I purchased which I could only hit 1.8 with.

Sappster; What fan/heat sink are you using?

Mine is a thermatake7+ volcano @3500rpm from 1 year ago. And my temp for CPU is 49C even when I didnt overclock. 35C for mobo.
Anyway my stepping is the same as yours, made in 2003/4

You can push Crucial PC2100 to 180? I have a very hard time to believe that.

A "refurb", and most likely an "A".
I should buy another one, for Mom!

Oh boy! Just what she wants! Bump for what's likely the best OC-able Athlon candidate on the market right now if the deal's still good.

I'm running the AlphaPal 8045U which is the combo heat sink/fan. Before when I wasn't overclocking my temps were below 40 for CPU and 32C for mobo I think.

I have a feeling that the KT3 can't hit 200Mhz, even with good RAM. My KT4V-L model, although the BIOS shows Mhz settings up to 200, has a non-functional PCI /6 divisior, so anything above 166Mhz is overclocking the PCI/AGP busses. I've gotten my machine to boot as high as 182Mhz (with a single generic 256MB PC2700 DDR DIMM), but I certainly wouldn't trust it running at that speed, especially now knowing about the PCI divisor problem.

If you want to run 200Mhz on an AMD platform, get an NForce2 or KT600-based board, that is certified for 200Mhz FSB operation. That's the only safe way to do it.

Well I just got 2 sticks of 512 Crucial 2700 DDR and i've got them running at 208x2 Dual Channel on a MSI K7N2-ILSR I bought this week from Newegg(Upgraded from a MSI KT133 Board). Might do more but i'm using an old XP1600+ with Palmino Core so it's limited. Pretty good for 166mhz Spec'ed ram.

OK, PC2700 can do 208x2, I am not surprised. But PC2100 at 180x2, that is first time I have ever heard of. What is the timing and voltage you use? I have both Crucail PC2100 and PC2700 (not in one box) and I would love to push them a bit further.

I think I can get my temp down to 42-44 but I dont wanna to push my fan to 6000rpm.(Too loud for me) So I guess, no overclocking for me. Anyway, my mobo uses KM266/VT8235(which doesnt support overclocking anyway)

Heck, I might even underclock it to 1100 just so that the temp will go below 38. Yeah another thing I like is low temp.

Timings are 6-3-3-2.5(this rams standard timing) @ 2.7 Volts.

Almost all current generic PC2100 memory you can find free-after-rebate will do 180MHz @ 2.5-3-3-6... the bigger issue is one of the combination of that memory with the stability of the motherboard, how many modules of the stuff you can use simultaneously at the higher bus speed... to that extent the motherboard plays a large role.

This is what I was running. I ended up finishing my overclocking run at 2170 (174*12.5) after being able to run Prime95 continuously for a few hours without errors. I loved it at 2320Mhz but I need a stable system...
