I had to really pitch a fit for Comcast to drop my cable TV!!
I was paying here in California 85 a month for just high speed cable and basic TV!!

I went to some sight and posted online about camcast not dealing with me and lying to me.
Then I was given an e-mail to the person in charge of the whole sheebang!

Within 15 minutes of complaining this idiot lady calls my house and says so whats th34e problem.

When I tell her she sayd we cannot help you and we do not care if we lsoe you as a customer!

I told her I need internet and I do not want Tv or my high speed internet that I had.

Within 15 minutes she personally dropped me down to basic cabel -- which is the shizzas and no TV!!

45 dollars a month for this crap.....I am seriously thing about going the 56k route...

I dropped it about a year ago.
We watch Hulu Plus, Netflix and OTA HD which is plenty of TV for us.

I watched the NBA playoffs online for free.
It seems more and more sports events are being streamed for free.

56k? Really no point in even bothering. The internet is unusable at that. It was unusable at that speed many years ago and everything requires more bandwidth now.

Cutting cable makes you a better person, cutting broadband doesn't. It's like a couple of my neighbors that save $25/month by not paying for garbage removal and instead have to pile it up in their garage and do a weekly or bi weekly trip to the dump, wait in line with everyone else, and still pay a couple of bucks to offload it. Their time is just worthless to them.

Uhh, that's not as terribly high as you imply.

I went to some sight and posted online about camcast not dealing with me and lying to me.

You forgot to tell us what the lie was. "Camcast?" "Sight?" Are you drunk?

Within 15 minutes of complaining this idiot lady calls my house and says so whats th34e problem.
Sound like good customer service to me. What had she done at this point that makes her an idiot? "Th34e?" Are you drunk?

When I tell her she sayd we cannot help you and we do not care if we lsoe you as a customer!
In other words, you asked for something they simply don't offer and she politely told you that they can't offer it to you even to retain you as a customer. "Sayd?" "Lsoe?" Are you drunk?

I told her I need internet and I do not want Tv or my high speed internet that I had.
So you don't want anything? TV or Internet? You sound like a confusing customer to me. And if you are talking about tiers with different speeds (premium, standard, etc): All cable Internet is called "high speed." You don't even know what you want so no wonder she couldn't help you.

Within 15 minutes she personally dropped me down to basic cabel -- which is the shizzas and no TV!!
"Cabel?" "Shizzas?" Are you drunk? What does "shizzas" mean? Positive or negative? How is "basic cabel" "no TV?" You said at the start that you had "Basic" and you were paying $85 a month for it with Internet.

45 dollars a month for this crap.....I am seriously thing about going the 56k route...
Sounds like you still have Internet. $45 a month is a normal price. I recall considering $35 a month a steal back in the '90s when I first got a cable modem and everyone else was paying $22.95 for dial-up. They usually have a hard time selling cable Internet without TV. Even if you aren't paying for TV I'd bet that if you plugged that cable into a cable-ready TV you'd still have basic cable too (rebroadcast local networks, cable access channels, and a few shopping channels forced on them by the networks in exchange for rebroadcasting rights). "Thing" instead of think? Are you drunk?

are you an idiot???

Nope. I thought the same thing as he did.

For your sake, it does look like you were typing on a mobile device but that only means you should be expecting and at least equally aware of the problems with it instead of seemingly oblivious.

After having a home built HTPC with OTA and cable card for about 5 years, I finally went to DirectTV. Now, two years later, I'm contemplating moving back.

But if I did, I'd just pick up a TiVo. I know it's an extra monthly expense, but the interface is better than any HTPC software out there aside from Windows MCE, and it's very Wife-friendly. It also has apps for Netflix, Amazon and Hulu built in. It would be worth the $15 a month for me not to have to build and maintain a new HTPC.

Except for those MNF games that are now on ESPN...

I'm an NFL fan who's OTA only and I think most MNF games in the past few years have sucked. NBC's Sunday night game has taken over that tradition for me with far higher quality games that actually matter most of the time.

WARNING: If you lease the TiVo from your cableco, you will not have Netflix or Hulu through the TiVo.

The content providers (TV network and movie studios) have contractual restrictions that require Netflix and Hulu to disable streaming on MSO-leased DVRs.

Correct, which is why I was talking about OTA. I had a TiVo under my cable company for a few months and somewhat liked it but was upset it was gimped. Buying one from TiVo and paying the $15/mo fee is the best way to go.

Also, for anyone considering going OTA, you may just inquire at your local cable company for the most basic package they offer. My provider, for instance, has a $15/mo plan that give you all the locals in ClearQAM HD, plus a few other channels like local access channels. They even throw in WGN, CSpan and a weather channel for that.

It's a great alternative if you don't want to deal with an antenna and you have ClearQAM compatible TV or tuners. It's not free, though. But could appeal to certain segments of people.

Not necessarily. I dropped DirecTV over a year ago for Roku/Netflix/Amazon Prime/OTA like the OP did. I opted to get the NHL Gamecenter live for $150 for the season and MLB package for $99. Even with that extra $250 on top of Netflx and Prime I am money ahead as my DirecTV bill had ballooned to over $80/month with no premium movie channels.

I would do this but NHL Gamecenter is useless because I am in market for my team AND they block out anything broadcast on NBC (which includes all playoffs).

lawwwwwls what silly, childish games they play. Netflix et al. are available on a multitude of sub $100 devices, the lowest now being the Chromecast (although it does require another device to operate, so isn't as elegant as an apple tv or roku). Surely these companies don't really think they are holding back the onslaught to a meaningful degree with such tomfoolery?
lol @ poor people that can't afford cable.
There are plenty of people with more money than you who cut cable. Although it is disproportionately a thing for poories to do there are plenty with means who no longer want to pay, either to put the money elsewhere, or just on principle. I fall mainly into the latter camp. Spending more time on Netflix than Directv and yet paying 10X the price for Directv just isn't how I roll. It doesn't make sense.

FYI there is a super basic Cable TV deal that is only like $5 a month. The cable companies are required by law to provide it. But they never ever advertise it. And you have to ask the correct way to get it. Well I think it's $10 but if you have internet already they take $5 off so it's really only $5. Or something super cheap like that.

Last time I had it was in 2006. I think I had like 20 channels or something. That was with Comcast

I imagine that would be just the local channels though, which you could just get by using an antenna.

Looking around a bit I think it's the "Limited basic". It can cost anywhere from $10 - $20 depending on the community. So yeah I think they take off $5 - $10 with internet so the total cost is $5-$10 extra.

It's not advertised on comcast but they have to give it to you if you ask for it.

Limited Basic Cable
Our Limited Basic package offers you a range of basic channels. These include:

Local broadcast stations (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, etc.)
Local government channels
Education channels

It's more than that. I think with an antenna I only could actually get like 5 channels. Even if they are broadcast doesn't mean I could receive them. I got about 20 with the limited basic. It's actually a good deal.

I cut cable a few months back over rebellion that the Cox retention team would not give me the same deal everyone else was getting for a two year sub contract. I have been holding out now due to fiscal discipline by using subs to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. I think the new season of Boardwalk Empire will be what puts me over the edge to shell out $1500 a year for cable TV sub.
