So the company is violating your privacy rights because it doesn't want somebody who regularly takes drugs to work for them? If you don't like it, quit. The company has rules and policies - if you think they infringe on your "rights", quit. Simple as that. Better yet, don't become an employee of that company in the first place.

As well, as others have said, high-functioning stoners tend to think they aren't impaired, so they come to work stoned. I don't know about you, but I don't want to work with somebody who's brain is purposefully altered by chemicals that change the way you perceive and react, legal or illegal.

Quit, to prove what? my company was bought by a big player who changed the rules, why should I dump myself on to a crappy job market, myself and other were the ones that helped keep the company viable so they can make a nice profit on it's operations. Due to the ongoing huge profits made by the likes of Labcorp and Quest, you can be expected to be drug tested for any job nowadays. Their lobby is so strong and drug testing is a %75 profit for them so they spread fear and misinformation (yeah, safety studies THEY sponsored) to keep up the cash cow. People like you would like a society of sheep that bend over when corporate America tell you to, even if you don't or will never use drugs your a gutless coward to not stand up for your rights..

You seem pissed off, and I'm not trying to antagonize you, but I don't know that it is a violation of your rights for your employer to drug test you.

No, good point, it's not at the current time against the law to drug test (except for 5 states which have banned it). I would have no problem with making sure that an employee is fit for duty and there already is mature technology available that can do just that, NASA uses it regularly. My issue is the same one I had when I used to get polygraphed, there is no reason for my employer to do so, unless job performance or attendance start sliding testing should not be required..

If you dont like it -----------------------> Door

I might just do that if a decent opportunity comes along, you on the other hand will just bend over and take it like a man. I guess if the Government decides to bar-code tatoo all citizens you will be OK with that too..

If there was a spot check that could test in the past 24 hours or something, I think that would be ideal.

Just get a note from your doctor stating it is for medicinal use only.
Won't matter. Company Policy trumps personal liberty. Califonria has already had that test case.
When they get an "ethics test", and management has to take it, then you can milk me, until then, F off. As long as I'm not shooting up, smoking out or draining six packs during company hours and the job is getting done according to schedule, you can keep your cotton picking hands off of my body and out of my life.

F-ing yea, some in this thread still just don't understand the point, employer has a right to expect you to follow a policy that includes being sober on the job but after quittin time it's one own business.

while I don't agree marijuana is the problem they make it out to be, your employer has a right to not want criminals working for them whether they break laws on or off the job.

By that standard a traffic infraction is a criminal event, a small one but a crime nonetheless, would that be grounds for dismissal as well?/
