No, Wetsprocket, there is no way they make more money on busts than through taxation. If you think about it, they maybe seize 10% of all the drugs coming into the country, ( i vaguely remember this number, it could be absolutely something different) If you look at the amount of pot smoked in the U.S., it is mind-boggling. They would make millions from taxation, that they wouldn't know what to do with it all.
Seriously though, pot was legal until 1937 in this country, until Hearst and DuPont used their influence to get Congress to ban it. It's not any worse for you than alcohol. I think the sentiment about it is changing. The people that buy into the idea of drugs being "bad" are slowly fading. Our parents and the generation that grew up in the 60's and 70's; these are the people being elected to Congress now and for the most part do not think of pot as an evil drug. Many from this era experimented and know that it is not evil, like its representation in "Reefer Madness" and D.A.R.E.
