Damn my area rocks. There have been dozens of train + car accidents at this crossing. Well, here's another, and it is full of win, especially because no one's dead.

Cliffs:
Drunk gets stuck on tracks
Not drunk guy puls him out
seconds later, car gets hit by a train.
everyone, including the cop goes to look at the wreck.
Another not drunk guy starts yelling 'oh fuck another train'
drunk guy asks 'wheres my car?'
not drunk guy says 'it's comin' man!'
2nd train slams into the car again from the opposite direction and turns it into a huge fireball

Holy crap! KABOOM!

I always wondered about cases like this...presumably the train was only dented, but someone still has to scrape all the debris off the track and certify it safe before they go back to using it...

wow. I like how they say that 3 people have claimed that their cars were hit by tools flung from the car...that's some big shrapnel. for the good samaritan.

What I love about these videos is even when it's (what appears to be at least) a passenger train it doesn't even flinch when it hits the car. It's like the car isn't even there.

And two hits in one video, that just makes it doubly entertaining.

Doubtful... I'm guessing that they just edited the video Most cameras turn on automatically when the lights are turned on.

No, he turned the camera. The camera in a squad car is basically a 'good' webcam, it constantly records and when the lights go on, it 'keeps' the ~10 seconds before and everything until the lights go off.

Is it me or did the 2nd train look like it had the effect from BTTF when someone arrives to their location after travelling through time.

Damn it I've seen that movie way too much.

Either way, incredible video and damn good Samaritan.

I am sure it was tools + car. When a car gets hit by a train, there isn't going to be much left. When another train hits the same car, the car is only going to exist is little pieces of metal going everywhere.

You could probably collect 80% of the car using those sweep magnets that contractors use to pickup nails from your yard after construction. You don't need a tow truck, you need a few garbage cans.

On one show or another, I saw a guy whose job it was to clean up after train-related deaths, because of the bio-hazard. Crazy job.

What's funny is that the car is hit by the non-locomotive end of the first train, and by the locomotive of the second train. It's almost as if the first train came back for another hit.

METRA engineers have to be really gun shy given the regularity with which idiots get themselves hit by the trains.

not accidents as of recent, but holy crap. I think Des Plaines is the worst suburb to be in when it comes to railroad crossings. (I grow up in Des Plaines, used to live a couple of blocks from Lake O'Peka)

:Q I used to crush pennies on the tracks a block south of the Meyer Cement plant...just north of where the tracks cross Thacker/Dempster.

Yep. There are always reports of people getting hit by Caltrain (commuter train) that runs from San Francisco to San Jose. I take the train to work in SF everyday and was once on a train that hit a pedestrian about 200 yards from the station. Usually people think that they can beat the train but they forget to realize that the train can get to them a lot quicker than they think.
I've heard from a number of people that they've seen the remains of individuals scraped from underneath the train.

Caltrains accelerate surprisingly quickly. I guess most people are used to freight trains, and don't understand how fast one locomotive is when it only has a half dozen passenger cars to move.
