Hi . . I have been away from building my own systems for a long time but I am always maintaining my own and others pc for fun. Even though my profession is not in the Hardware line - I spend a lot of time reading up just for hobbie. Now I am planning on putting together a system and planning on OC.

Heres my list of components and where I am getting them.

Ram http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=T6UX2G...1d373b23a76e3f97c8c2be2ce76a7430d7c27d
CPU http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=E4300B...e9c7d8323f8377d4e47d99fc1a402b90c42435

I have 2 Seagate SATA II 320 GB drives that I want to set up in RAID 0
For VGA - I don't need any hifi card or anything - I don't play games but I need to set up 2- 22 inch wide screen monitors . I trade stocks and I usually run over a dozen real time charts simultaneously. If you guys have any suggesting - let me know,

Please recommend a inexpensive aftermarket cooler.

I plan to OC 3+ GHz. I am totally agains wasting anything and I believe most people really use 30% of their system resourses - please keep that in mind when making recommendation. Also I keep reading bout this memory issue with DS3 - until BIOS is updated - how do you update the BIOS if the system is not even going????

If anyone has a better deal on these components post here.

Sorry for the long essay.

Thanks for your input

HSF - Scythe Katana/ Scythe Katana Cu/ Artic Cooler Freezer Pro /Scythe Ninja/look at cooler master and Thermaltake brands too

Video Card - any that can handle the resolution, look at the specs of the monitor and buy a card that will support the resolution.

Someone with more time should be able to help you hunt down better prices. Check out zipzoomfly(normally ships free), clubit, svc.com and newegg

The Scythe Katana just barely outperforms the stock Intel heatsink. For 3 Ghz+, you'll want a Scythe Ninja, Scythe Infinity, Zalman 9500 or 9700, or better. The Tuniq Tower is the best heatsink on the market, if you're interested. The Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is good for up to 3.0 Ghz, but not good for much over that, unless you get a good chip, and can do 3.2 Ghz on stock vcore, for instance.<< It is by far the easiest to mount, though.

Hopefully if you buy a DS3 it will have the latest bios installed (assuming it was manufactured recently, and hasn't been gathering dust on the shelf for a year).

If you buy the DS3 and it has a really old bios, then you can either replace the bios chip, or you can use an old processor/ram while you update the bios, then install the new processor and ram. Maybe the computer shop can help you here, as they're bound to have spare parts (that's a good benefit of buying from a local shop instead of over the internet).

I'll be getting this same combination but I have a question.
How safe is it to flash the DS3 bios without a UPS (the whole Virtual Dual Bios thing)?

I killed an ASRock bios by getting it interrupted while trying to flash...so I want to know if its safe with the DS3.

The revision2 ds3 I received shipped with the F7 bios. It easily updated to the latest bios (F10) in windows with no issues using gigabyte's @bios utility. Their internet utilities were very helpful since I chose not to install a floppy in my new build.

Might be a good idea to find out which revision ds3 you will receive. There is a revision 3.3 now.... I beleive they made quite a number of OC'n and ram compatibility improvements over the rev1 release. I didn't know about the 3.3 when I ordered mine.
