what's the concern here.. is it the price? why would it bother you to use a mobo that also overclocks well.. even if u're not gonna use it for that?

Well, I'll say that I'm really happy with mine. It's been very stable (even while overclocked) and is priced much better than a lot of the other well regarded Conroe mobos out there. Also, it never hurts to have a good OCing mobo especially a year or two down the line when that Conroe doesn't seem quite as fast. You can easily squeeze another 20-30% out of it.

For no overclocking never, ever, not even in my wildest imagination. Get an Intel branded board.

The 965 board seems to be plagued with problems (although I haven't read most threads since I bought my Gigabyte and they could have solved those problems through BIOS updates), but from all accounts, unless that board is a Bad Axe (which is hella expensive) they aren't worth getting.

The intel p965 board has been kind of a p.o.s. for a lot of people.

I haven't had many problems with newer bioses, but originally it was pretty bad.

He never listed a price, and never said it HAD to be a P965 so the Intel 975x is still valid unless there were conditions that require me to be a mind reader.

Just get a P5B-E then

Somehow, I got the feeling that he was looking for something in the proce range of the DS3. Maybe it's my liberal arts education, but somehow I have the magical ability to read between the lines. You'd have to way too much money if you wanted a 975x for a computer that will be used for photoshop and not be overclocked.

Also, on a different note, if you haven't already purchased that PSU I would suggest getting a better quality 400W (or 500W although you don't need it) than the one you have. Generally the FSPs are quality but the AX series is one of their worst.

I'd recommend something like the enhance 5054gh (or 5055gh if you want 500W), or an Enermax or Seasonic in that range. They shouldn't cost much more (if any) and should give you a better PSU.

Just yesterday I completed a flawless up grade using an Intel DP965LT board. The secret is memory stick - memory stick. If your using any other memory than that cited on Intels web pages for the 965LT you are looking for trouble. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the 965LT board.

I purchased what is slightly expensive (over $300 at NewEgg) Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G memory because I wanted my machine to run at optimum with 800 speed ram and the E6600.

That being said you probably do not want to spend more for the RAM than the board costs so 667 RAM may be more to your liking - but even that will cost more than the 965LT board but that comes with the territory. The kingston ram you have is more than likely completely compatible with the 965. It is a rock solid relatively inexpensive board.

As a non-overclocker myself I see paying a high price for compatible ram on a very good, stable board no worse than paying the price for a overclockable board, $400 memory so you can overclock the lowest speed C2D to the speed of a higher price C2D.

Check the P965LT website for more memory compatibility info. Mine booted right up and I soon was able to flash to the very latest bios for the board which has cured some of the more esoteric problems with the board. Mine was working fine before the bios upgrade.

repeat after me -memory-memory-memory-memory
