I currently have Cable internet access and Xbox Live. Life is good. However, I am sick of paying over $45 a month for it, and having it go up every year. $30 for Verizon DSL seems to be much more reasonable. Anyone have experience with DSL and Xbox Live, specifically Verizon? Thanks!

The Zoom series of DSL Modems (X4 & X5) are "Tested and Certified" to work great with the XBox. Enjoy.

Oh and they work fine on Verizon.

OK, I now have DSL and I can connect fine if I connect directly to the modem. I have a Linksys BESFR41 router. If I connect it like I had for cable, I can't get the activity light on the WAN to come up. I can only talk to the router - no websites. I haven't even tried to connect to Xbox Live yet. Any suggestions are appreciated. I plan on calling Verizon soon. I have a feeling that the BESFR41 isn't supported, but I could be wrong. Oh, they sent me a Westell 2200 DSL Modem. Thanks for any help...

I thought that too (PPPOE), but the Verizon site says that my modem connects via PPPOE and that I should set my router to automatically obtain an IP address...

Yes the Modem does the PPPoE for you.

I'm not sure if you can so this for a Westell.

Set the IP address of your router in the westell as a DMZ.

Then your router will do all your protecting while still allowing the Xbox to work.

Also if the Westell has a WAN Ethernet port and a regular Ethernet port, only plug the Modem to your regular Ethernet port not the WAN port.

At the moment, I'm not concerned with the XBox not working. I can't even get my PC to connect to the internet through the router. There's got to be something in the router I'm missing...

I'm not sure I can adjust the Westell's properties, but I'll take a look when I get home.

I think I may have figured it out, but I won't know until tonight. I think I have some IP conflict. The Westell is using the 192.168.1.x subnet and so is my router. Both devices seem to want to use 192.168.1.1 as their IP address. So all I should have to do is change the IP address of my router to something other than 192.168.1.1. DOH! I can't believe I didn't see that last night....

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

If you modem does PPPOE it is probably a Modem/Router Combo.

I.e you can not use the Linksys as a Router.

But I'll still be able to use my Xbox and PC at the same time, provided I fix the IP address problem, right?

I had the exact same problem last night with my Netgear and my SBC DSL router. Both are configured for 192.168.0.1...the SBC modem does the PPPoE. I changed my router to be 192.168.1.1 and everything works fine now
