DSL question

Ok here is the situation:

I never-ever use my home phone (gone wireless a long time ago), so Ive decided to just screw Ameritech and disconnect it, but Ive been planning to on getting DSL next month and Im just wondering whether DSL is going to work if i dont have phone service, now i still have the wiring and all, and i doubt that someone is actually physicly going to 'cut the wire' on me, since its all circuit switched these days. So, is DSL going to work with no phone service?

The technology can work without any phone service, but the question is...will your ISP allow it to.

What cmdrdredd said. I don't know about Ameritech but Qwest requires you to have regular dial service before giving you DSL.

well, one thing i know for sure, u need a phone number to "get" DSL, thats a simple matter, they need to know which phone line to activate DSL on. Now when u think about it logically, when u stop paying the bills they will most likely cut all the data to ur phone line, voice or otherwise, the question is whether the DSL data "gets off" of the lines owned used by POTS before the cut-off point or after.

It's definitely possible to have DSL without phone service since I had the chance to experience it for myself from Verizon by accident. Perhaps the funny thing is I didn't notice it until I tried to call someone and noticed the light on my phone was dead but yet my DSL was still working. Called Verizon on a pay phone and few hours later my phone was working again.
