In an attempt to maximize the potential for getting DSL service on this go-around, I've decided that a POTS Splitter at the NID is in order. My current NID, though up to code does not have the provisions to add a POTS splitter internally or anywhere near the NID enclosure.

Thus I have decide that a new DSL et al broadband tech aware NID is in order as well.

Doing some research, i found that the Siecor CAC 7600 series NID is just what I need. It is a 1-6 line NID, but the cool thing is that Siecor ALSO makes the SPS-DL1-SR1! This little baby is a dual-line POTS Splitter module that takes up two slots in the NID and splits the telco input to two outputs: a filtered voice out, and a non-filtered DSL data feed, RIGHT INSIDE THE NID. And there would be 4 additional slots that can accept any of a number of different modules, voice only, DSL, DS1, ISDN, etc, etc...

Now.... does anyone have any idea 1)where "I" can get my hands on these two parts, and 2) how I get the NID specs for protectors ,etc for the 7600 specific part number for PacBell networks. Failing acqiring the parts on my own...

3)Does anyone have any idea of the best way to approach PacBell about upgrading my NID to this model and associated module? I don't want to queer the deal on my DSL service in the process, BUT I need to at least get my hands on the NID enclosure so I can rough it in (install it flush in the wall at the side of my house).

A POTS splitter at the NID will insure that all my inside wiring doesn't add wire distance to my loop, and besides, those kludgy little micro-filters are aweful and ugly.

Thanks,

Unfortuately, I've never heard of any Bell company replacing a Network Interface Device based on a user request. They will use the heck out of what they have already rolled out, and will replace it when they have to. If it needs replacing in order to facilitate your DSL service, then they will do it. But there's no telling what they'll put out there -- most likely the bare minimum required. And I believe you have to order that NID direct from Corning -- good luck.

Of course, if you can get the NID you want from Corning at a reasonable price, just wait until the phone guy leaves and pop open his side of the existing NID with a can wrench and wire it up to your own NID. If they ever come back and see this, they will cut the wires and get extremely agitated. I recommend that you just open your side of the existing NID and jumper your wires into the new NID they will leave it alone. Anything past the point of demarcation (the demarc is the NID in this case) is customer premise wiring and therefore your business. Hope that helps.

CTR - The whole point of the new NID is to avoid the addition of yet another utility box on the side of my house.

I'm pretty sure I can finagle a 7600 and module from one of the distributors for Corning (Siecor), but I need to know the exact specs for the telco side of the box in order to build the appropriate part number for the 7600.

I'm assuming that it would be CAC 761S to begin with (1 means hex key and 2 means sealed RJ-11 ports (rubber boots)), but there are four additional numbers on the end that have to do with protector setup, etc that I don't have the info on.

Hell, I'd be willing to pay for the NID and let PacBell take ownership of it. I just want all the telco/DSL stuff in a SINGLE box that offers future expandability.

Thanks,
