dTV (deinterlace TV) is da BOMB!!! A must have if you have a PCI TV tuner card. UPDATE: Great news for Windows 2000 pro users if you've had problems

This is the most amazing TV viewing program that I've used.

I tried it using both STB TV PCI and Pinnacle PCTV Pro

deinterlace.sourceforge.net

It works great in Win98 SE. A bit flaky in Win2k (freezes if you move the tv window around too fast).

I was SHOCKED to see how much a difference it made. Especially when I play a DVD from my Apex 600A inputed into my TV card via S-Video.

Only ~200kb too.

BTW, my 21" Trinitron serves as my TV. Not enough room for a real TV.

/edit Scroll down for update on running this on win2k

Looks great, but I've got a TV-Wonder on the way. No current support for ATI or Matrox products.

OK, I take that back. It does work with the TV Wonder. I haven't played with it much, but it looks amazing so far. Especially when I compare full-screet between ATI's TV program and sending dTV to full screen. So much less graininess and jumping in the dTV output.

What drivers are you using for the STB PCI TV (Win2K)? Link please!

I've only seen these:

http://www2.anubis.co.uk/catalog/drivers/-50680-E.html
http://www.geocities.com/amethman/

I used the win2k beta drivers from www.3dfxgamers.com

They are meant for Voodoo TV (BT878 with Temic Tuner) but it's backwards compattible with STB TV PCI (BT848). THere are two files that you need. One is the inf with the drivers, the otherone is the TV viewing software 3dfx TV or called visual reality or something. A word of causion, the Win2K picture quality for the Component in is so so, but the S-Video input quality is horrible. THis has to do with the deinterlace algorithem of the viewing software. (signals from VCR and S-videos are interlaced, but your monitor is non-interlaced)

You can use dTV, which gives you amazing resolutions. But it's not stable in Win2K. The tuner functionality in dTV is not a strong suit. But heh, it's free. If more people are willing to support it, it'll get better. THe source code is also there for download. The stability of dTV might also be dependent on the driver for the TV card, I know that at least my stb TV PCI and PCTV Pro ran into some problems using it. BUT, maybe my setup was not ideal. So feel free to try it.

Yeah it seems like a major system slowdown, no idle cycles for RC5 to use

but damn...

I put my cable through to my VCR and then RCA composite out from the VCR to the RCA composite in on my Hauppauge WinTV.

It looks A LOT better. And pausing is actually nice now. No grainy lines, flicker, or jump.

If only it used less CPU power

Did you change the type of tuning to NTSC?, the default is PAL and results in a WEIRD picture.

ok got it working. Cable is much learer now. I dont like the fact that it completely uses up one of my processors though. But when Im just watching tv I will most likely use it.

I just installed it and it went to a default channel, CPU utilization is 85% on a 1.1 Ghz Tbird and when I tried a channel scan it didn't come up with anything??

Anyways I'll try fiddling with it later.

Dont know if this is the same, but Radeon chipsets have hardware support for adaptive deinterlacing in dvd/video playback.

Will I be able to use dTV with an ATI-TV Wonder under Win2k?
Will I definately have to disable ACPI, or possibly not?
Is the Dreamcast compatible with dTV?

It doesn't hurt to try. dTV is a simple program if it doesn't work, just delete the directory.

If you want the most stable setup don't use ACPI. ACPI is a great thing if everything was PCI 2.1 compliant. In my case, I had 6 devices sharing IRQ 11 when using ACPI. But I got each card on it's IRQ when using just "standard pc".

If you're using the composite input / S-video input, then yes it will work.

Also, for all of you that have a stand-alone DVD player that has Macrovision enabled, you'll see these purple lines across your screen especially in dark backgrounds with most tv Viewing software. But dTV has a special algorithem to get rid of it. This wasn't a problem for me because I have one og the original Apex DVD 600As

Maybe I am just blind, but where are these Win2k drivers for the Voodoo TV? I only see drivers for Win95-ME.

Thanks,
ERJ

mosdef, I think ATI AIW will not work with dTV because it uses the BT828 chipset which is not currently supported.
