I have wrote both senators and my congressman telling them to not delay.

Did it last week. Can only hope those two voted against it.

-edit-
I'm struggling to find the actual vote, looks like it was unanimous in the senate. Goes to the house now.

Damm. Well I just wrote my congressman and also the speaker. Anybody can write the speaker here...

http://speaker.house.gov/contact/

and Obama (Prez)

I would be pissed if I was the manager of a TV station that had to keep that 100kW + transmitter running 24/7 for 4 more months

I'd also assume the corporations who bought chunks of the old analog TV spectrum expecting to take ownership of it on Feb 17 2009 aren't too happy either.

Oh well, this is the last time. If people haven't got it figured out by June 12 too bad, we better not delay this again.

Or else write them and tell them to get the hell back to work on meaningful stuff. As if they do much of that to begin with.

Quick! We need a national Potato Chip Day!

(There probably already is one.)

Verizon complained, AT&T said it was ok:

I'd say go for it, I prepared my elderly grandparents months ago..then again not every elderly person has grandchildren available willing to research DTV converter boxes for them. And the ineffective distribution of the couponing has only made it harder to deal with.

Most people on here stand to benefit more from 4G service than analog TV (myself included), but I can see the reasons for the delay.

I thought the delay is for more coupon money?
And stations that are set to go digital on Feb 17 can continue to do so.
Correct me if I am wrong...

Personally, this will only confuse people more with all the advertising saying Feb 17 is the switch date.

Well I guess that's that, we're not going to drop analog TV after all. I hope the FCC kept all the money they need to reimburse Verizon/AT&T once they realize that they're never going to get the spectrum they paid for.

That's good at least, I figured both would be pissed.

Didn't the bandwidth get sold already? What is the penalty on that?

Seems they also extended the contract for that signal. 1 was ok and the other not.

They should just bite the bullet and allocate more fund to the coupon program. A couple more millions in deficit is not going to make a difference anyway.

Perhaps it's because of our new President's close relation to a certain poor and stupid demographic.

Just pull the fuckin plug already.

Yeah, that's right, throw more money at the problem. Isn't that what this country's politicians are voted to do now anymore? Damn political hacks have no clue what they're voting on. Just pull the plug and everyone who was responsible and got their converter will reap the benefits... those who didn't, well, fail. Tough luck for them. Wasn't the central theme of Obama's inauguration speech "responsibility" anyways. So far he's gone above and beyond to promote exactly the opposite.

Uhh, you do realize that the converter program ran out of money, right? More people ended up asking for vouchers than they estimated. It's not throwing money at the problem, it's using the proceeds of the spectrum sale to cover the costs of the conversion, and in this case more money from the sale needs allocated to the converter program to finish that.

Probably because many people are requesting coupons when they don't need them or can afford to buy them at full retail price. According to the estimates I've seen, between about 10-15 million households rely solely on terrestrial OTA broadcasts. If each household ordered one coupon (I still don't understand why the limit was two coupons per household, one is enough) the funds initially allocated to this program would have been more than enough.

It just frustrates me that this coupon program seems to have been so poorly executed.

Why did they put such a ludicrously short expiration on the converter box coupons? I went in for one at the start without knowledge of the expiration and at the time no mature converters were on the market...
