I'm looking into a replacement card and have decided on one of these two. DirectX 10 is not a priority for me. I'm steering clear of Vista and Direct X 10 for as long as possible so I was thinking that I would either get two of these in SLI:

or one of these:

I'm not sure what the best option would be. I want to play all my current games at full settings: Quake 4, BF2, UT2k3/4, Warcraft 3, HL2, and DoD:2 as well. Unreal 3 is a possibility too.

What would you recommend? I've read some reviews saying that I should probably just splurge on a 8800 GTS 640, but that's a little hefty at ~ $400.

Thanks....

A single card will always win out in the simplicity factor. You wont need a strong psu and dealing with profiles in SLI sucks. Pushing higher res's on some games the sli will win out but the 8800gts 640 is a really nice card that will last a long time and will probably depreciate less than the other card, seen what a 7800gtx is selling for now?

Thanks for the info guys.

I currently run a 700W OCZ PSU, but I've been thinking more and more about moving back to my Athena 500W PSU since I haven't been able to find another 6800 for the SLI setup.

Resolution: 1280x1024

I took my 7800 SLI setup apart... it works, it's fast, but only with one monitor... It makes a lot of noise and is not 100% compatible. I prefer my 8800GTX over it any day of the week.

At 1280x1024 you can use the 320 MB version of the video card without any impact. Spend the extra cash on a factory OC'd version

That's a good point. You have to look at what res you will be playing at. LCD screens have a native resolution that displays the best and is also the "ceiling" in terms of max res.
But 20" lcd prices are dropping... which would take you to 1600x1200
