Well, now that it's be confirmed on many boards and sites that the XP has nasty performance, but cruddy marketing, I think the time is now for dream machines. Anyways this post is pretty just discuss/dream, since I have nothing to do besides wait for my Iwill DVD266-R crisis to pass over (the thread is in TS). So here we go....
Who beside Tyan is making dual Athlon boards? I mean, they are the only people to actually have boards out right now, but who is working on some? This leads somewhere, believe me.
So, our next step in the thinking process is to admire the Iwill XP333 features. Now, if we were to incorporate some of these features into our dream dual Athlon board, then perhaps we'd get somewhere...Perhaps I'm just jealous that the XP333 was made without consulting me... ^^
The XP333 runs at a 166 bus, considering that the memory runs at 333DDR. Now, since the Athlon XP/MP 1800+ runs at 1.53, one gets 11.5 multiplier (11.5 x 133). Now, since the memory can catch up now, run that same 11.5 multiplier at 166. 1.9gHz. Woohoo. Next...If anyone has read the AMDZone.com articles on the new Athlon MPs, which are supposedly not clock locked...Anyone catch my drift here? Stick this into a board that's essentially a dual version of the XP333 and you've got SERIOUS power. Dual 2.15 anyone? ^^
Then perhaps we'll start a little thread that might convince some mobo makers to make something that'll have us overclocking powermongers to flock. I mean, with the current memory and CPUs and mobos being as cheap as they are, I'm looking at a price range of less than 600 to dual super-athlon with a GB of RAM...
So, what'll we have? The PCI and AGP dividers of the XP333, DDR2700 and options for slower DDR, an overclocking BIOS (microstepping? ^^), PCI compliancies, RAID, perhaps, ATA100, Dual Socket A, anyone up for chipset recommendations.
Oh man, this'd be the works. Now pardon me while I go pick up some Prozac for when I realize that no one is making anything like this yet.
