Dual Channel DDR muth or truth?

Ok i have one supplier telling me I can use 2 identical or similar peices of memory and run an 865 or 875 chipset in dual channel mode, and another who says i need a dual channel KIT which is twice as much as 2 normal sticks

but im told i need the kit to let it see the dual channel... it that tru ?

No.

A kit is basically 2 pieces of indenticle RAM (that might have been tested for Dual Channel use), which is where the price premium comes in because they can definately be used in DC mode, whereas 2 sticks might have an issue.

If you buy 2 sticks they should work (try to get the same type/manufacturer of RAM).

thats kinda what I had figured, when we buy ram its almost always the same batch so i cant see why they wouldnt work if their from the same batch

If the lil extra money is worth the peace of mind then go for it. I never would buy a DC kit, but thats just IMO.

DC kit should work at the ratings they say. Separate sticks may have to relax the timing. Like using cas 2.5 instead of cas 2. If it's high quality memory that is usually not the case.

You do need modules that are of identical organization for Intel DC chipsets (you couldn't mix single-bank and double-bank modules, for instance).
