I have a Asus A7N8X deluxe board with 2 identical Kingston DDR 400 modules. Will I be able to do dual channel or do I need specific "dual channel compatible" RAM?
The motherboard has to be dual channel for anything to operate in dual channel mode. Go to the ASUS website and it will be marked in the motherboard specs whether or not it is a dual channel motherboard.
I just checked and this is a dual channel DDR400 motherboard, so it should be fine.
It should say when you boot up if it is in dual channel or not.
My Abit NF7 says it on the initial BIOS/boot screen thing as it's starting up and checking RAM etc.
I believe Mik3y is right...Socket A produces little to no benefit however purchasing two smaller modules, as the article below points out, vs. one large module is often cheaper and has better timings.
Doesnt ASUS recommend you use the blueslots first? I have an ASUS P4P800 deluxe and they recommend usinf the blues first. Maybe his board recommends different.
