dual channel

I'm currently running a pretty old system from around 2003.

I'm using an Abit NF7-Sv2.0 mobo, and have two Kingston HyperX 256MB sticks in slots 2 & 3, which are the slots that would make my ram run in dual channel. But when I run CPU-Z it shows them running in single channel, anybody know what could be the problem, or how to fix it?

thanks in advance.

I read you manual. It does not mention the fact that 2 and 3 are for dual. Try different combinations. Also make sure they are exactly the same (clock/size etc.) and check your BIOS for enabling and disabling dual channel. Also as a last resort try a bios upgrade from here.

thanks for the advice man, it helped a lot, apparently Abit doesn't know how to number their sockets, as sockets 2 and 3 were switched around so i was a bit confused with the ram placement. but it turned out that instead of sockets 2 & 3 like many other forums said, it was 1 & 3.

but now my other problem is that they're clocking in at 166mhz when they're capable of 200mhz, anybody know the way to fix that? Or is that just because my motherboard is underclocking my ram since my system is running at stock speeds.

your CPU has a 333 FSB I believe. So it is clocking the ram at a 1:1 ratio which is the best for a XP to run at its fastest. Changing this would degrade performance.
