Right now i'm running single core, but once ut07 arrives i may just want to invest in a dual core cpu for my current rig, but will prices for dual core ever take a huge drop?

One reason why i want to get a dual core in the future is because i may want to purchase a second bfg 7800gtx so i don't bottleneck my system to greatly when dual core games arrive.

And i forgot one thing, isn't the unreal 3 engine heavily cpu reliant. I already know that my cpu is more of the bottleneck in my pc which all the more reason to upgrade it when ut07 arrives.

Don't buy hardware now for future games. If you want to upgrade specifically for UT2007, wait until it's out and see how it runs on currently-available hardware.

The UE3 tech demos from E3 last year were basically crippling a high-end 6800U SLI rig, so at the higher detail settings, it will probably end up being GPU-limited on all but the very fastest graphics cards.

I dont see any bottleneck on that system besides not having 2gb of RAM, and even that is not really a bottleneck. Went multithreaded games arrive, then maybe you should upgrade to dual core, but there is no reason to now.

Sorry i mislead you, my whole rig is stock right now. I had to reformat so i could setup a raid function. I will be overclocking again soon, but not as fast, but rather a more reliable overclock if there is such a thing. I was thinking of a 10.5x250 with a 9/10 divider instead w/stock voltage of 1.38v.

And i'm not going ddr2 because its too slugish, you have to buy a new board and cpu, and i just built this comp not too long ago so thats why i'm not going ddr2

Well, unfortunately the CPU market is somewhat stagnate at the moment. AMD and Intel are just catching their breathe for a fresh round of battling to beging Q1 next year. Prices haven't really dropped because neither manufacturer has put out any newer faster chips for quite a while. Wait for the next batch of speed upgrades, and you'll see the lower end chips start to slide in price. Hopefully around March there should be some affordable (NON POS Pentium D 8xx series) CPU's for the taking.

Basically market driven. Prices on existing stocks will drop when people stop buying them at the current price, or . . . when they are replaced by a newer model.

if they keep buying the duals then the prices will not go down....
why should they go down?
People are buying...lol

They will not go down until people stop buying or a newer product comes out...but even then sometimes prices don`t change!

Prices never change for the sole reason of allowing people who can`t afford or wish to be cheasp to buy a product..lol

But would having two bfg 7800gtx's be a huge bottlenech on a stock 3700 sandy? And i like that idea of build a computer for current games and upgrade if needed for future games that come out. I know ddr2 is no benefit, but it sucks that they're not making anything faster for 939 sockets, all the faster cpus are continuing on m2 socket.

I think my single bfg 7800gtx will do fine with a stock sandy on ut07 w/settings high on 1024res w/no AA or AF maybe 2x or 4x AA and 8x AF, but doubt really. If i do buy an additional card, it won't be till i actually play ut07 and feel disappointed, but if it runs really good i won't even worry. I'm thinking of buying one of those ageia physics cards as soon as they become available because they tested them in ut07 and its suppose to take about 80% load off the cpu for physics which would even further to bump up the settings.

How much do you expect them to drop? I find it hard to believe they will ever become lower than twice as much as their single core siblings...

well if i were to get a dual core, i want a decent one atleast. If i were to get a dual core, i most likely wouldn't overclock it just because you already literally have two cpus.

I would most likely get the 4400x2. I would hope the price would one day be $350-$380. Honestly though i'm not even interested in a dual core yet. I would buy a second gpu for sli before i would buy a dual core.

Dual cores are always likely to be more expensive than their single core counterparts, because die area is really, really expensive. As manufacturers compete, die shrink, etc. they should become cheaper, and things are likely to settle down some; but they'll never beat the fact that dual cores have more silicon than single cores, all else being equal.

Most of the hardware market has been steady in pricing for the past 6 months.

CPUs, RAM, video, HDs.
