Dual CRT problems with Sapphire 6970

I have two 22" CRTs running at 1600x1200 that are connected to VGA to DVI adapters. When I plug both monitors into my 6970, I can only get one monitor to work (the other isn't getting a signal).

Looking at my Sapphire 6970 manual, it appears that I have a single-link DVI port, and a dual-link DVI port. And the port I'm having problems with is the single-link DVI port.

From what I understand, a single-link DVI port shouldn't have any problems handling a 1600x1200 CRT. Do I have a dead display port? Thanks in advance!

Does it say anything in the manual about the single link port being DVI-I? Because if it's DVI-D only then you won't be able to use an analog display with it.

The manual says it's a single-link DVI-D. So it looks like I can't use an analog display on that port then. If I order a VGA to Mini-DisplayPort adapter, that should take care of things, right?

CRT FTW!

Good to know others are there as well, let us know how it works out for you, thanks.

Yes, CRT's do take up a lot of room. I'm probably going to order two 24" LCD's next.

Anyway, I received the VGA to Mini-DisplayPort adapter today, and was able to get the second monitor up and running. The weird thing is that the highest I can get my display using the single-link DVI is 1280x1024, instead of 1600x1200 on my primary monitor. Perhaps it's the adapter?

Looks like an excuse to get those LCD's Thanks for your help guys!

For some people its a CRT's performance / lack of motion blur & input lag + deep black levels that keep them away from LCD.

I recently had to enter LCD land due to my FW900 CRT dying on me, Im impressed with this PX2370 overall but for gaming it cant compete with the FW900.

^ LOL, the image makes it look like the desk is bowing. That is a re-inforced desk, isn't it?

It was bowing a little but the desk held up over the years lol, Its a 92lb. monitor. I used to have dual CRTs on the same desk.

What's a CRT?

CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. Any of the old monitors/tvs fall into this category. Their primary disadvantage is size and weight (which is obvious) and low refresh rates causing headaches/eyestrain. Paneled displays don't suffer from those issues, but they have plenty of their own issues, such as color uniformity, display angles, brightness, black levels, and more.

I currently use a 19" CRT that I bought in 1999 or 2000. I plan to buy a ZR24W this spring though. Newer display drivers aren't written with CRTs in mind, so it can be difficult to get displays to refresh at higher than 60Hz, which will give me a headache over time.

Not sure about ATI but Nvidia still supports CRTs even with the latest drivers. I had no problem running my usual 1920x1200 @ 85hz on the FW900 in Win 7 vs. 5 years ago in Win XP.

Yup, my 280 GTX runs my NEC 2111 at 16x12, 85HZ. I'm gonna be a sad guy when it finally bites the dust.
