An AMD representative referred to "dual Durons" tonight at the AMD Tech Team dinner, which appears to be the first official mention of such a possibility. The AMD tech referred to "Durons in 2P systems" being "sleepers," and mentioned that such a config was "a screamer." This opens up a whole world of possibilities that were only theoretical before, but leaves one big question: Was he referring to the current "Spitfire" Durons, or the upcoming "Morgan" ones??

dual amd mobos prices are a bit steep... if I were gonna spend that much on a dual AMD mobo, i'd go all the way and get t-birds though.

there are plenty of threads on dual tbirds.

Hope the dual AMD boards come out soon... I can't think of a reason to upgrade until then and my fingers are getting itchy.

Brings me back to the good old days when I bought my first BP6 and threw in a couple of Celeron 400's and immediately oc'd 'em to 500Mhz. Ahhhhhh...those were easier times.

Looking at Single Durons kicking Single P3 at MPEG4 encoding and insane FPU performance. It is really a good buy if the motherboard is at an acceptable price.

Looking at Single Athlons kicking Single P4 anything but MPEG4 and insane FPU performance. It is really a good buy if the motherboard is at an acceptable price.

Well just to inform you guys, casue a little birdy told me, that the Duel AMD Mobos will NOT come cheap at all... They will be priced around the $800-$900 region... I am not going to name who told me this info but it is a pretty reliable souce of info.

I hope this will help you guys reconsider the prospect of a Duel AMD Socket...

Albert.

P.S I am not pro Intel at all... I was wanting to get a Duelly AMD too, but whent he peson told me how much they were going to be about, I fell abck and said i would rather go for the single.

I've been waiting years for a dual AMD board. Looks like finally it might happen.

$150 for a pair of tbirds.
$150 for a mobo
$100 for 256MB

Thats only $400 for a truly kick ass machine. And in a few months (however long it takes the boards to arrive), can you imagine what you could get for $75? A 1G tbird might not be too much more than that.

IIRC, ABIT is also working on a cheaper dual socket-A board. Remember that the the Tyan board comes with onboard SCSI, LAN and other goodies. Maybe we could get an ATA100 version for somewhere around $500 initially and dropping down to $300~$400 after a few months.

If it comes down to $300-range, it doesn't sound too bad to me. (Obviously, I'm just dreaming at the moment, but it could happen one day. )

And if only server-end Palominos are SMP-enabled, I expect those chips to cost quite a bit also.

A2kLAU, that is pretty common info at this point, that board that is coming out though is a major server board with all scsi, it might be a bit before consumer level boards come out but you can bet they won't run anywhere near that cost.

Few... Glad its not THAT high... But I guess they will start off pretty high when they first come out right?! And the price I said was the Server level one... And not teh consumer home PC user right?!
