it's bad. Not to mention there is another thread around here for this same drive only $2 more. Anyway, i don't know who wrote those 9 reviews for majorgeeks, but every other site i could find with reviews for the NEC 1300a judge it to be a terrible DVD burner. This drive has been in the bargain bin on various web sites for months. Hit google and find some other reviews before you buy, i would personally stay away from this drive.

Look around on the hot deals and general hardware, there are lots of satisfied Nec 1300a owners, im expecting mine at the end of the week.

One thing for sure , you can't beat this price for a " -+ " drive .

i have only heard good things about this drive.
nec is a good company and this drive doesn't seem to have any real bad points about it.
i know several people who have this drive and all are very happy with it, except for the
fact that they paid around $200 for it.

i dont get how this is a bad burner.


i havent burned many with it yet, but i also had a 1100A before (which is basically the + only version, people even tried to reflash it)


the 1100a is the same drive as the 4x plextor , the 4x hp 300i, the 4x memorex, the tdk , the buslink and countless other drives. its also the drive Dell puts in their machines.

i am pretty sure it cant be that bad.

Only negatives I have seen about the drive is it's slow CD burning speeds, but you ain't buyin a +R/-R DVD burner to burn Cd's

Prices are dropping probably because the dual layered dvd burners are being developed. Id totally wait until those come out, no more long encoding times just for a movie. Just decrypt and burn baby!
