Dual Monitor and Video Playback

Hello,

I am trying to set up dual screens, the primary is 1920x1080, and the secondary is 1280x1024. I am using a Radeon 9800 Pro, with a pent 4 2.8.

The problem is, video playback is fine on my primary, but when I put it on secondary screen, it gets choppy. Not only that, it makes my primary screen chopy too, I mean like the mouse moves at a crawl. This is just with the video player open: Zoom Pro.

Am I missing some setting?

I've tried without and with hydravision.

I've had the same issue with a Geforce 4600ti, 5950 and the 6800 GT. I think the issue is that only the primary monitor gets hardware video acceleration. If you swap which monitor is the primary you should have fine playback on the other screen. I do this to watch TV on my one monitor and surf on the other.

You should be able to play media fine on the secondary. Sounds like perhaps the filters aren't setup in zoom player properly.

What type of media are you trying to play?

Just xvids. I use customize playback in Zoomplayer, and it's not giving me any errors.. ANd it works fine on the primary.

Try different modes of VMR9 or Overlay (set in Zoom Player options), and enable "theater" mode for Overlay (in ATI CCC options).

Oh great, it works now with windowless. I had renderless before.. thanks!

It's weird, but theatretrek and VLC doesn't even show videos on the secondary, just sounds.. ah well, zoom is my main player anyways, and it works now.

Btw, whats ATI CCC options? I only have the drivers installed, maybe you mean Catalyst control center, if that's what's it's called.

Yeah, ATI CCC is Catalyst Control Center, it should be in the video options somewhere. Enable theater mode to get TheaterTek and VLC to work. I'm betting that's why. If you can find an option for VMR7 or 9, or "Video Mixing Renderer" 7/9, windowless, etc. in the options for those programs then that's a preferable choice (most of the time). Renderless will behave differently in different applications, so if there is a renderless option, you can try it anyway. Regardless all of those should be labeled with VMR in which you'd want to enable it versus just enabling theater mode, unless VMR is slowing you down too much.

Renderless is more intensive because it goes through the application itself which may apply filters or just slow it down. Windowless is more direct, but not as direct as Overlay. It's a happy medium because Overlay has issues with mouse shadows/menus/transparency, probably some other stuff as well.
