Dual Monitor in Mandrake.....

Hi,

Just installed Mandrake to have a play with it again,

I have dual LCD's on my 9700 and it seems not be extended onto the second monitor, in other words i see the same thing on BOTH monitors, i wish to be able to extend the desktop from the first one ono the second one... if anyone knows how to do this it would be good.

So does anyone know how to do this?

Thnaks for the info guys...

I got the ATI Drivers to install but then when i loaded it up again all i had was the command line so i installed mandrake again as i didnt know how to get to KDE from the command line....

I have had a look at the links but it all looks to complicated and annoying for me to do at this moment in time, is there and linux distro that would be able to give me dual monitor with out me having to do all of that?

I was looking to install Fedora / Debian. Would these be to hard to install / play around with, as i dont really have that much knowledge on the linux side of things.

startx is typically how you start X from the command line.

If there was a distro that would do the dual head by default I would figure it would be Mandrake or Fedora.

So i will have to play around with all the settings to get the dual to work properly... it is a bit annoying but nothing is easy when it comes to linux

Playing around helps you learn the system.

yeah that is true, the main reason why many people do not know how to do a lot of things in windows is because there is no reason to play around in windows, there is so many wizards to help you along the way.

I shall have a play again when i get home and hope i get can get it to work

Just make sure you have a made by ati card, and not a powered by ati one, else you won't be able to use the proprietary ati drivers. I myself have had NO problems with the radeon drivers that come with mandrake, execpt for slightly worse 3d perfomance

Ahhh i think mine is powered by ATI. That is a bit stupid isnt it

You have to keep in mind with linux you have multiple desktops anyways (usually 4).. it might be putting 1 and 2 on 1 and 2 monitor if that makes sense, so it could just be a setting of the OS.. i would personally rather have each one a separate desktop for quick reference when coding websites or programming or something along those lines.

I got my Fedora working dual monitor with a modern AGP card and an atiquated Rage 3D.

It took a fair amount of work, but I actually prefer the Fedora setup, because it lets me have two separate desktops (which means twice the taskbar and less movement of mouse when switching between programs). It's just preference, but I know there are others out there who would like the same option.
