Dual Monitor Input Issues

Hello, I was wondering if I could get some help with an issue I'm having. This is literally my first post here, so I'm not entirely sure how things go. If you need information about my rig or need me to run some report gathering software, just specify what and I'll share to the best of my ability.

I've recently added a duel monitor setup to my computer, with little to no issues however there is one strange little quirk I keep running into. Upon exiting a graphics intensive full screen program (most notably a game I've been playing called "Evolve", the input to the first monitor will become extremely fragmented and start jumping about. It almost looks like when a video cable becomes unseated, but I've checked them and they're all fine.

It doesn't do this DURING gameplay, When alt tabbed and the program is running in the back ground, or ever if I never start A game. Only after exiting it, and returning to desktop. Trying to refresh the input by dicking about with resolutions or changing which input goes to which monitor doesn't fix it, even temporarily. So far the only thing I've found is completely resetting the computer, and windows runs through the shut down process just fine.

It's also ONLY the first monitor. Dragging windows to the second monitor assures I can still interact with them, and effectively any programs running on either input are not halted, so it's purely graphical as far as I can tell.

If anyone has any suggestions please send them my way. This isn't damaging my computer as far as I know, and is mostly just a minor inconvenience, but it's annoying as all hell to have to restart my computer every time after playing.

It would not do that if the screen resolution IN GAME was the same resolution as the main desktop.

Also Gaming is a lot smoother when desktop/gaming resolutions are the exact same.
Making them the same means less work for the graphics card to do.

Can we assume the game is only on one display?

When you go back to single do the problems disappear?

Have you tried a different driver?

Please tell us what video card you have, what types of cables you are using, and how they are configured (eg. Are they both connected to your video card, using onboard graphics, etc)

The game is only one display, and I had not encountered these problems before running on only the one screen, so I was tempted to blame too much draw on the card, but it was weird that it only occurred AFTER I shut off the program.

I have updated the driver and tried removing and re installing. but I'm unaware of any other drivers available for the card: which is a XFX R9 280. Both monitors are hooked up to the one card via DVI cables.

I could be mistaken but didnt the XFX R9 have 2 revisions with the same model number?

I just ask because I think I might have the same card. Its been 2-3 years since peeked inside my case.....

I'll find out later tonight but what I am getting at here is the 2nd revision is a lot faster and even though they both have the same GPU they both look totally different from each other.

My second point it the first revision card is not that good with gaming and the second revision I have inside my second pc and it works great with any game.

You could try going back to the video driver that went along with the video card. I had an older ATI card that would always overheat on newer drivers but would find with its own driver that came on cd with the video card.

Make sure your game is running at the same resolution as your desktop. Also, try switching your main monitor around, so the game pops up on the other screen, then see if the problem still happens after exiting the game.

Hey,

We're sorry you are having issues with your 280. Does the first monitor, the one that artifacts, only do it in its current port? have you tried using displayport or a different DVI port?

i want to rule out the ports, cables and monitor. See if the other monitor will do it in the same port or if set to primary.

There are plenty of suspects, i would even try removing half of your system ram to see if the problem dissapears.

If you haven't created a ticket yet, please do so at xfxsupport.com to get more help and warranty related service.
