you don't need ultramon, just use horizontal span in nview, and your taskbar will span across two monitors.

One Samsung 955DF-T/T on a Radeon 9800 non-pro

Two Samsung 955DF-T/T's on a Radeon 9000 PCI

I want to replace the 9800-non pro with a 9800AIW but I've heard that the TV tuner is incompatible with PCI video cards so I'm looking for input.... All run via UltraMon

but i want to keep the taskbar icons for apps on monitor one on monitor one's taskbar /monitor 2 apps on monitor 2's taskbar...
nview can't do that (i don't think)
and also this keeps my clock/tray icons etc on my primary monitor

For the inputs on the AIW to keep working, all you need to do is make sure the system's BIOS initializes the AIW as the _primary_ card. System BIOS usually has a "Primary VGA" preference switch you can set to PCI or AGP. In your case, set this to AGP, and you're sorted. (This implies you cannot have two fully working AIWs in one system.)

I sure do hope you're right Peter. I've always had my AGP set to primary... wouldn't make much sense playing games on a 9000 that's already split between two Ramdacs, now would it

I'll probably make the order by the end of the week. Until then, I guess I'm just going to have to keep digging... I *know* my buddy with the geforce2 problem was using both his 9800aiw and his 8500LE before that as his primary... Is there a noted trend of AIW inputs playing together better with ATi branded secondary cards?

I did it for a while. It was OK, but now I'm back to one. I never really utilized the second monitor. Probably better for a programmer, or graphic artist that can really benefit from it.

Im using 2 19in crt's with my gf4 ti4800se and nview. Ive had it for a week so far and I like it, would be nice to have start menu on 2nd monitor, dont want it stretched across 2 screens, looks to hokey.
I might have to try Ultramon

ATI cards, in my experience, play worse with other ATI cards....i had driver conflicts in XP, with the AIW drivers thinking the wrong card was installed if it wasn't set to primary.

AIW cards have to be set as primary, as someone else said, for most of their features to work. This being said, if you're trying to get the features of the AIW card you can't use an older PCI card as your secondary...most older cards, especially from ATI, require being set to primary to work at all.

I *think* if you use a newer PCI card, you can set the AIW as primary, and not have a problem, because newer cards don't need to be set as primary to work. From talking to people, it also seems Nvidia is much better about this than ATI.

I'm currently using an ancient ATI 8 mb PCI card (Rage Pro, i think) with a Geforce 2 mx on dual 21 inchers (Viewsonic and HP), and it's working great. Couldn't make it work at all with an AIW instead of the G2mx, without losing all of the AIW functionality.

How about updating the poll to include an option for people not using double-head cards? A lot of people seem to be doing this with two cards...

Dave.

Spook said: "My ATI however I have problems with the 2nd screen, its blurry."

This is exactly whats happens to me, i have an ati 9700 pro, connected to a sony 19" lcd (its not dvi), and i want to use my samsung 19" crt too, but when i connect the crt to the 9700pro, its display is very blurry.

I dont understand why, anyone has a solution to this? Is it an ati problem?

Would really appreciate some help with this. thanks.

I reciently bought that same pci card to run my second monitor (replacing an old 2MB one I had!) but I am having loads of trouble getting it to work.

My main monitor (running off a Radeon 9600 XT AGP card) works fine. Just I dont get any picture on the monitor connected to the Radeon 7000.

Was wondering if you could shed any light on my problems?

Many thanks, James

Radeon 9600XT

1) 19" KDS CRT monitor
2) 26" Sanyo TV

Works great for playing a movie and getting work done at the same time
I've also done this setup with an FX 5200 and it worked perfectly.
