dual monitor question

i can't seem to get dual monitors to work on my geforce4 ti4200 (asus v8420).

i have a 19" benq fp931 and a 15" aoc lm-500.
right now the 19" is on dvi and the 15" is plugged into the analog.

i was under the impression that i could just plug in the second monitor to get dual monitors to work and just fiddle with the display properties. but turns out that it's not working.

i have done dual monitors with two 15" monitors on this video card before so it's really boggling my mind now.

basically i go into display properties, and there's only one monitor shown. that's fine. i can just go to nview to adjust it. but no! nview display mode only allows me to select "single display" and then if i hit the "detect displays" button, nothing happens (usually the 1 and 2 pop up). the selection "make this the primary display" is shaded out so i can't select it.

i've done everything i know of. and i'm just afraid that i'm missing some minute detail. can anyone help me out please?

It appears your DVI monitor isn't being detected. Can you force that from the NView menus?

it is detected because it says "digital display"

Stupid question... did you try turning the computer on and off with both monitors plugged in and turned on? Sometimes the older cards don't like to detect monitors that are plugged in while the system is on.

yep did that (restarted computer after plugging in second monitor)
and i made the monitors the same resolution at 1024x768 just in case that had anything to do with it.

not stupid! thanks for responding! i know there must be some small detail i missed.
