I have a Logitech MX700 and due to my nature, I often forget to recharge it and it dies on me. Not great fun when Im playing a game.... so I decided to plug in my old faithful Intellimouse. Both mice work fine but the Intellimouse runs sluggish without software and Im concerned about mixing Logitech and MS Mouseware.

Anyone have any suggestions or input here?

Making sure I recharge my MX700 is easier said than done so scratch that idea.

My MX700 has a charger. I have a battery charger and 2 spare pairs of batteries but whats the difference between charging a mouse and charging batteries?

I use a logitech laptop cordless mouse, a microsoft optical mouse, and the touch pad on my laptop. I have drivers for all three loaded, and haven't had any problems at all. Just experimented using all three at once, verticle on the touch pad, horizontal on the microsoft, and circles with the cordless (footdrive). The pointer sort of did an inclined oval. So I guess it was taking inputs from all three and kinda averaging them out.
What the hey, they all seem to work and play nice together.

You forget to put the mouse on charge, right? So, if/when the batteries in the mouse die, you take them out, replace them with the freshly charged batteries you prepared before, and continue with whatever you were doing. You then put the batteries you just took out in the battery charger and let them charge up.

It's the expensive way if you can't remember to put the mouse back on the charger at night.

You missed my point entirely. There is no difference between putting a mouse on charge compared to putting batteries in a charger to charge. Id rather have a dual mouse set up as its a hell of a lot easier... not cheaper as i already have spare batteries and battery charger.

Charger and batteries or two mice of the same make and model. You can't use Intellipoint and Mouseware at the same time, and both mice share the same cursor and all settings, so you have to alter that when switching between them.
I really do hope MS fixes that with the new OS in '07...HIDs need to work like soundcards do. Tell the control panel which to use for what stuff, and myabe tell the apps which to use, and have totally different settings for them all.

Get a second set of NiMH batteries and keep them charged. When you're in the middle of a game and yer mouse start's b!tchin swap them out and slam the old one in the charger on the wall.

According to Vagrant, I could use both at the same time controlling the same pointer. If I pop my MX700 in the charger, I can use my Intellimouse (no MS Mouseware installed) but its sluggish (like default settings). I was just wondering whether I could use both mice, so if my MX700 dies, I could just switch over the the Intellimouse without problems.

I didn't miss your point. You forget to put the mouse on the charger. However, when your batteries run out, you take them out, put them in the charger, and take the other batteries out of the charger and back into the mouse. You do it in 1 action, and you NEVER need to remember to put the mouse on the charger. If you do, it's a bonus, as you don't need to swap batteries as often.

Uninstall Mouseware, and you might get somewhere with your plan, as Mouseware sucks, period.

Ive used Dual mouse with a MX700 and one of their older egg shaped wireless. Both worked at the same time. Was great when I got fed up showing my GF how to do some stuff, I just put the batteries in and presto. We were fighting over the pointer. ... .. now she can run circles around my illustrator abilities.

As stated before, mouseware and intellimouse software cannot co-exist. To get around this decide which mouse you will want to control the settings for and install that software LAST. If you want to be able to control the logitech, install the intellimouse software first and get the settings in the control panel set (speed, acceleration, etc.). Then install the mouseware. It will override the control panel selections for intellimouse but the intellimouse settings are remembered somehow. And now you can control your primary mouse (logitech) and you have the microsoft mouse as a backup with all the speed/acceleration settings preserved. I have this setup with a logitech optical mouse and intellimouse explorer with the intellimouse software installed last.

According to me you could do that as well, but you can't just jump back into the game w/ the other mouse, because it acts differently at the settings you have, so you have to change the mouse settings. That's why I eventually gave up on my trackball & mouse setup, despite liking the controllers. Also you're stuck either mapping buttons on one or the other, since when I say you can't use mouseware and Intellipoint, I mean each one's installer gets mad if the other is installed--sucks when my ideal situation would be using a M$ trackball and Logitech mouse.

Just for kicks we decided to see how many mice we could install simultaneously at work. We ran out of USB hubs and mice before Win2K ran out of "mouse coordination", we had 15 pointing devices of all makes working at the same time

I've been using one of these to control two mice for a while. It's worked fine for me. I use it with two corded mice. I like a specific mouse for gaming, but it isn't so good for browsing.

Personally I think all "mouse software" is garbage. But then, I also admit I have not used the recent versions of either. If you don't use the software to program specific buttons for specific tasks it shouldn't matter what mouse you use. For gaming I would just try to run two similar mice (ie, two 5 button mice or whatever) that way, no matter which mouse you use Button 1 does the same thing with either mouse. Just make sure you know which buttoms are mapped 1-5 and adjust as needed

Those of us that use it think it sucks as well. The features in them should be standard, not something added. You can use many HIDs on USB...but only if you're extremely tolerant of standard settings.
