Dual nics setup

So i ended up with 2 nics in one of my machines and I read some threads on here which basically said that I wont be able to link the 2 connections for a combined faster connection
However, is it possible to pull this off with my router?

I noticed that of the 2 connections, one was carrying the main load of all my network activity
So, I set up web server/downloads via the port fowarding function of the router to go through the second nic
So what I hope to accomplish is when I do network stuff (surfing, email etc) It travels through nic 1
When I use download programs or someone hits my web server, it travels through nic 2
Will this work in limiting the bottleneck on both nics and speed up my overall network experience or am i fooling myself?

Your DSL / cable connectio has no way of maxing out even a single 100mbit connection. If all you're trying to speed up is internet experience, you're not notice any difference at all.

You can do what you want, but I don't see where it would help you in any way. Your internet connection is the bottleneck and only more of your money will improve that.

Look up load balancing NIC's or most server NICs, but they can be a pretty penny.

i was getting slow torrent speeds
so i did the port fowarding on the first 4 as described above
but i still max out at like 30k

are there any other settings that can possibly speed up my dls?

ps i've searched the forums and so far
--did the port fowarding
--left my most recent downloads to seed so that i am also sharing my files
--set up win xp firewall for the the first 4 ports
thats all i found

Like the others said, it is not because you have many NICs connected to your router that you'll get faster download speeds. You are limited by the download speed of your internet connection. Doubling the number of nic in your computer won't double the speed you download at...

As for torrents, if you want good download speeds, find torrents that have a lot of seeders and leechers (but mostly seeders).

Check the specs of your internet connection too. If you're telling us that you can download around 30kB/s, that means 240kbps and it is possible that your download speed is caped to something around this speed...

Conclusion, you won't have better results with 2 NICs versus 1 NIC as 240kbps is very far from the 10mbps or 100mbps network card you have...
