I'd like to know everyone's opinion on this system build. It is going to be a high-end NLE workstation and broadcast node.

looks great! try coolmax's psu. i forget its name, but i silent. it has no fans or any other moving parts in it, so it should be fine if you're not overclocking. otherwise, antec's true power psu's are very quiet.

Before you use that videocard in that motherboard, you might want to read this entire thread.

It's a long thread, but the probs of ATI cards in the K8W Motherboard are well-documented.

The actual problem is with the AMD-1851-AGP Graphics Tunnel chip. It doesn't play well with any of ATI's 9xxx-series cards.

Seems that the X800's are fine with the mobos' BIOS flashed and all NVidia cards are OK though.

There is another Opteron board coming out this month; the IWill DK8N. It's NF3-250-based and has no such probs. That's what I'm waiting for.

There is a DK8N thread on that same forum (motherboards.) HTH.

OK, that motherboard won't cut it I don't think. MichaelD is right on the video card, and for high end, where is the SCSI ?? And Antec 550 EPS will do fine, and they are quiet.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually posted the wrong motherboard. I decided on the IWill DK8X. It has the same AMD-8000 chipset as the K8W. So I guess this means I still need to spec a new video card. Any recommendations on a dual DVI video card? Perhaps a nVidia Quadro or a Matrox P750? I'd look at the Matrox Perhelia cards, but they don't play nice with the DVStorm2.

There is no SCSI, because 1)SCSI is loud. 2)I don't need SCSI. 3)If I do need SCSI I can buy that later. 4)Not enough budget for SCSI.

I would go with the Iwill DK8N, but the DVStorm2 isn't compatible with nVidia chipsets. This is according to Canopus.

How is the MSI compared to the Gainward? It looks like it has twice the memory, a cheesy remote control and half the memory speed.

Well, one of those is an Ultra "Golden Sample", while the other is a vanilla 5700, so the former will be rather faster (the extra memory is irrelevant). I was under the impression, though, that speed wasn't an issue, just the dual-DVI, as you had a 9600 with the original configuration?
