Dual Pentium or AMD?

Should I go for a dual pentium or amd system?

I'm pretty much hunting for a budget system, saw Abit AB-VP6, looked good.
Any other suggestions besides that particular m/b.

Anyway, DDR motherboards and MP processors are out of the question - budget issue.

Any other relevant suggestions, advice or corrections on my part, are greatly appreciated.

Gazillion thanks

I would go for a dual amd. However, all dual amd boards are ddr.

I assume you have a MP os. Unix, linux, NT, W2K, XP Professional to name a few. Basically anything but 95, 98, ME, or XP other than professional.

Dual Athlons are far superior but dual p3s on a Iwill DVD266 will work great! That board uses DDR but is probaly the best dual p3 board out there. there are some cheap Dual p3 boards out there that use SDRAM!

I would go dual AMD at this time. My Tiger MP systems have been near perfect to date. I had the Iwill DVD266r board with P3 1g chips and it was okay but lacked in performance compared to the Tiger MP even with the 1.2 MP chips.

If its budget it must be AMD. You can't beat the performance. Tiger MP is the current workhorse and everyone is sorta waiting around to see what becomes of the new MPX motherboards that are just starting to hit the street. MPX isn't really much better than the MP so if you are looking to save some $$$ go with the Tiger MP and a couple of Athlon XP processors (saving money over the Athlon MP). The only catch would be memory. Read up and check if the Tiger MP can run without registered/ECC. MPX can on 2 slots.

The Tiger MP requires Registered memory to operate correctly. Very few people have had positive results with non-registered memory. I have the new Asus A7M266-D board and still prefer my Tyan Tiger MP to date. If you want the MPX series I would highly suggest waiting for the boards to have their issues worked out before buying at this time. The revision 3 Tiger MP is a great board.

I'de wait till some of the more trust-worthy dual AMD mobos come out. I fail to see how a Dual Proc. system could ever be a "budget" system though.

Thanks a lot for all the feedback!

Maybe I have misused the word "budget", but I guess what I was trying to say is that
if there is such a combination of m/b and processors which are averagelly and acceptably "cheap",
yet working great, that'll be superb.

I don't know about price difference between regions, but in my country, with my financial situation,
it's pretty high. Tiger MP is MYR 890 + MYR 660 X 2 ( for Athlon MP 1 Ghz ) = MYR 2210 = USD 582
Athlon XP 1800+ is MYR 810!!

A new power supply + etc ...

I know i know .... I'm a fussy ass, but hey ...... what do you guys think?

Dual Athlon XP's on a Tyan Tiger MP. One of the most best/stable setups I've ever had.

Ok here it goes,

I don't have much money on my side, so I gonna get Tiger MP (any other cheaper mb?? from Tyan?)
And most probably 2 Duron morgan 1 ghz

A question bout registered ram though, any useful articles regarding this?

Any feedback would be great!
