Has anyone experimented with having two separate D5 or DDC pumps manifolded together, so that if one pump were to fail the other could still operate? I realize that there would likely have to be two bypass lines with ball valves so that coolant wouldn't need to flow through a pump that were offline or powered down. I've done similar configurations with other pumping applications so I feel it would work fine, just figured I'd pick the brains of the more custom-oriented coolers on here.

why would you do that and not just put them in serial?

Is it for the ease of pulling the non working one out via valve?

Does the system really need a redundant pump system like that where you cant turn the system off?
Its quite dangerous to do a part exchange in a wetted environment with the pumps still on.

One wrong cut, or bad valve, can mean elephant trunk spraying all over your expensive hardware while live.

Also if you had that extra pump, it would be best to just put them in serial.
You get 2x head pressure, and 1/3rd extra flow from pumps in serial.
2x head pressure helps with blocks rads, and basically loop mitigation, while flow improves efficiency of water loop.

A client of mine is considering a HEDT system for complex computing purposes and the processor is very likely to be a multi-core Ryzen TR or Intel i9. I am trying to figure out the best possible system in having some kind of fail safe water cooling so that they can continue to use the machine under load if a pump were to fail. In other words I don't want them to be without the machine until I can schedule service. Right now it's all prototypical.

Having them in serial with a double bypass is probably more what I'm looking for as a true "manifold" configuration would have a satellite D5 pumping directly into another pump from its own reservoir. That's not exactly an ideal setup unless there's a bypass line around the master pump... a bit risky as you said.
