Dual VC, no SLI or Crossfire?

I need to build a relatively low budget NLE (Adobe Premiere) rig that will drive 3 and sometimes 4 monitors. I have a basic question about dual PCI-E slots: Can I run 2 PCI-E cards in a non Crossfire or SLI configuration? If I just install the cards and the basic drivers will both cars work separately and be configurable to run multiple monitors?

Sorry about the dumb question, I?ve built hundreds of systems over the last 15 years but have never had a chance to work with dual PCI-E slots. I?d like to avoid using a second PCI video card on this rig if I can.

I?m leaning towards a P956 mobo and either dual X1550s or 7300GTs, but I?m open to suggestions.

Yes, of course you can. It's no different than with video cards in any other kind of port. You can add in additional PCI video cards as well if you want more displays (or more PCIe ones if you have more than two PCIe x16 slots).

I would think that fifteen years of experience might have taught you how to search for answers somewhere along the way...

Thanks for the quick response.

I did search for an answer to this basic question, and an unambiguous solution was not forthcoming. In desperation I took it upon myself to ask a question on this board.

I apologize if I've broken any protocols, and have only myself to blame if I've illustrated my ignorance.

some people act like they've never posted a question that hasn't been asked before.

Some people answer a LOT of questions around here and would prefer to spend their time on ones that haven't:

1) been asked many times before.

2) have very simple and (usually) easy-to-find answers.

There's also the "teach a man to fish" factor; it's more efficient to teach someone to seek out information efficiently than to answer every very simple question they may have (although in this case, it sounds like the OP did at least try to find an answer before posting here.)

Please see the link in my sig if you would like a more detailed explanation/rationale (I didn't write it, but it basically sums it up.)

You may want to also check Adobe's website to see which cards they've "certified" to work with Premiere Pro..

Although I just ignore it My X1600 Pro works fine...

it takes just as long to tell someone to use the search function as it takes to just answer the question. it takes longer to answer the question AND tell them to use the search function. why bother posting at all?

You're not obligated to reply. If you don't want to reply to a question that's been asked before then don't post. It'd be a lot less clutter than abusing someone with a simple question. Get over yourself.

I answered his question.

I don't tell people to search for answers first because I'm on an ego trip, but because there are good reasons to use other resources before posting here.

It should also be noted that the search on this forum can very often suck.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start an argument...

I tried searching but the terms were too broad. I assumed it would work as expected but I'd hate to discover a gotcha while trying to get the rig up and running.
