Hi; thanks for looking. On a fresh install of 98se (fat32) and xppro (ntfs), I reformatted each part of the drive separately. We used partition magic to reformat the xp partition as it wouldn't reformat with the boot disk I had.

98SE went on great; xp pro shows a fatal error - incorrect parameter, I believe - no matter how many times it gets reformatted. (No longer needing to use partition magic)

Hmm - what is this error? I hate to blow everything out but that's next up.

Since you are dual-booting with a OS that doesn't support NTFS, from my experience you should have both as FAT32, and then when they are both installed and running, convert to NTFS. Just my $0.02!

Hey, that does make sense. However I had run a fat32/ntfs dual boot before; I didn't delete the partition cause I'm lazy like that; I just reformatted each one.

I didn't know xp pro would really run under fat32 all that well. Does it? (See how dumb I am?)

XP runs fine under Fat 32, you just don't get the added security of NTFS partitions. Other than that, its not noticible.

Sounds like Partition Magic Screwed up the Partition Map and didn't make a proper space for the NTFS partition. Just take the hard drive out and put it in another 2k/XP box and delete the old NTFS partition in drive manager and create a new one in drive manager. All will be well

If you want access to files on the xp partition from the 98 Operating system, you will want the xp on fat32. Win98 will not see or recognize NTFS partitions. If you want to HIDE the files on the xp system from the 98 install, then go with an NTFS partition.
