His freedom of speech wasn't infringed upon at all. A&E (a private company) fired him for what he said.

Seriously, why don't people understand how this works? Did everyone skip middle school or something?

It would have been neat to have gone from Grade 5 straight to high school.

:hmm:

I wasn't necessarily referring to his firing to be correlated to an infringement on his rights of speech, more so just a general statement.

You may now return to your Mountain Dew and Doritos.

this is amazing.

some are blowing this way out of proportion. He didn't go on a hate filled rant against gays. he quoted scripture and said why he thought being gay was wrong. He didn't say they should be killed or judged.

While A&E is ok with what they did (not that it matters. phil wanted off the show and was on less and less) I do think they are going overboard.

Though while from how they talk about how religion saved him from a dark road he was on (he was a alcoholic and was near divorce) I think they need to come to the 21st century.
Stop using common sense and critical thinking skills...we need MOAR OUTRAGE!!!!!

lol. he equated bestiality with homosexuality and said that homosexuality is destroying America.

OK.....

The simple fact that a raging hate-filled bigot like FelixDCat agrees with him should be enough...

There we go...no critical thinking skills at all, there was no "equating" homosexuality with bestiality at all but he doesn't let that stop him:awe:

The sensationalism is strong in here.

I bet a lot of you cried in elementary school when a classmate told you that the picture you colored was ugly, huh?

There we go...no critical thinking skills at all, there was no "equating" homosexuality with bestiality at all but he doesn't let that stop him:awe:

Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he tells reporter Drew Magary. “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

To him, it is like a "gateway" transgression. homosexuality, bestiality, all part of the same progression. Yes, he very much equated the two. They are all the same sinful perversions.

you have a choice, basically--accept his idiocy as protected speech and live with it, remain in the dustbin of history with all of the other bigots of past decades that probably disgust you today....or recognize what a relic of simple hate, ignorance, and fear these beliefs equate to. He can continue to spout it--that's fine, but these fools will eventually realize that their little world of dickbaggery is long dying.

If you're comfortable with letting your verbal acrobatics justify your 2nd-degree support for their bronze-age hate, and thus joining them in the void of curious history, fine.

So what if a heterosexual couple decides not to have kids? Are they defective?

The only reason such an option exists is due to technology.

But in the past there was no option. You bang a chick, she gets knocked up.

Technically homosexuality is a defect, it is not by choice. I do not support discrimination regarding Homosexuals. I do not have an issue regarding Gay marriage or gay adoptions.

The church though considers Homosexuality a choice and a threat that exposing a child to a Union of two Homosexuals would result in the adopted child catching the Gay as if it was by choice which I strongly believe is not choice! but a random mutation someone is born with.

Christians considers Homosexuality a big danger, and fear people who are exposed to homosexuals will also become Homosexual. Thus the reason for Christians discriminating against them and considering them a poison to society.

Anyhow I few the whole issue from a more pragmatic stance.

I personally think that gay marriage is wrong. The idea of marriage is between a man and a woman that love each other to produce a child.

So do you believe that married people have a responsibility to bear children and it's wrong to enter into a marriage with no intention of doing so? Should sterile individuals be prohibited from marrying? What about the post-menopausal?

Are you against contraceptives too?

And do you think that married couples have to prove that they love each other somehow? Should the marriage be automatically disolved if they can't keep proving that they still love each other? Throughout history many people have married for reasons other than or even not including love.

That guy likened homosexuality to bestiality. He makes a living helping people trick ducks into thinking they want to fuck them.

This is what i hate about the gay marriage discussion. Anyone who has an opposing opinion is shot down as a homophobe.

I personally think that gay marriage is wrong. The idea of marriage is between a man and a woman that love each other to produce a child.

Gays have civil unions. They have the same rights as marriage, cant they be happy with that? Just call gay marriage somthing else that is exclusive to gays .... I dunno Gay frimple fromp.

I am not against gay couples. It just makes me feel sick when children are involved

Yeah, because all of the heterosexual couple out there are such awesome parents. The gay parents I know are far more invested in their adopted/surrogate children than a lot of the hetero couples I know.

Why do you care if a same-sex union is called marriage or not?

Actually I agree with the first, but your generalizations don't hold true. Would it really shock you that I am not only a "christian" but a CatholicD: Stereotyping any group is wrong

In the extremely broad sense that it is considered a sin yes he did, and in the same breath likened it to sleeping around too, but let's just focus on the gay part right?

Your lack of critical thinking skills is amazing...there was no progression implied, in the broad sense that they are all considered sinful things yes, kind of like saying jaywalking and murder are both crimes

I am very strongly pro-gay rights, but I just see his comments as those of a man of faith espousing the tenets of his religion. I don't see this as hate speech, nor do I believe he should be pilloried or fired for what he said. If he were a gay basher, or calling for the mass extermination of gays, I would feel differently. I imagine the great majority of evangelical Christians would agree with what he said. If, say, he operated a business (like the Chik Fil'A guy), I might not patronize it, but I don't believe he should lose his job over this.

In general I think we as a society spend too much time and energy manufacturing outrage over the things people say. This feels like much ado over nothing.

A LOT of straight people do that. Guys and girls both sleep around a lot during their late teens and early twenties these days. Then at some point they settle down with someone, get married, start going to church, and generally try to pretend all that youthful indiscretion never happened. If they can do it, why not gays?

So if a LOT of straight people spend 10 years sleeping around, despite marriage being legal for them, it would seem marriage is pretty bad at promoting monogamy then.

Phil and people like him have to be intimidated into silence. We can't have people going around saying things like this. It's okay for them to think it, they just can't make their beliefs public. These people need to be chased back into the closet.

Actually he does say they should be judged. The fact that you people don't get that them saying God will judge them and that everyone should follow God means they aren't judging them is baffling. They are literally judging people themselves and then trying to pass it off as though their deity doing it.

And he also absolutely does put all of those other things on the same level, as God won't let them "inherit his Kingdom". Again, not sure how you can't see that's exactly what they're saying even if they themselves don't realize it.

The point is that they sleep around for a while and then are monogamous after being married. Commitment to marriage marks the moment in their lives when monogamy truly begins. Far from being bad at promoting monogamy, marriage actually defines it.
