This.

The decline of good intro songs definitely started in the '90s. Only a few good ones from that decade.

What's a pity is that the intros is part of what made cartoons so iconic. It's part of what made you want to get up at 6 in the morning to watch those shows. Call it branding if you may, but shows just seemed to slowly wane and fizzle from that period onward, to the point where we no longer have a real Saturday morning cartoon show lineup any more.

Chi Chi Chi Chip n Dale's.... Rescue Rangers!

It never fails, once they're involved.

Sometimes,
some crimes
go slipping through the cracks.

..but these two
gumshoes
are picking up the slack.

There's no case too big,
no case too small.

The 80's was like the golden age of intros. These days shows don't even have them. They prefer to cram in another commercial instead. (When attack of titan premiered in the States they butchered the opening into a 10 seconds for just that purpose, in addition to making other cuts and edits and other crap) Everything about America these days feels diluted and watered down compared to the good old days.
To be fair, 99% of anime intros are terrible. I haven't seen Attack on Titan, but nearly every anime I have seen is an automatic skip past the intro. And, they do recap episodes... Wtf? I don't need an entire episode dedicated to recapping shit I already saw.

Fighting evil by moonlight.
Winning love by daylight.
Never running from a real fight,
she is the one: Sailor Moon!

I want to be the very best.
Like no one ever was.
To catch them all is my real test.
To train them is my cause.

Well, keep in mind that most 30-minute anime are actually 24 minutes once you cut out the commercials. I'm pretty sure most 30-minute TV shows in America are about 21-22 minutes long. Well, how can you easily address that missing time? Cut out the opening and ending, which are usually about 3 minutes combined.

Yeah... I usually only watch the openings or endings if I like the songs, but that's pretty rare. I don't mind Japanese music, but it just depends. I can't even remember the last series where I watched an opening or ending. The worst part is when I finally get into a song, and they change it since the openings and endings usually change with each cour.

Um Powerpuff Girls?

Denver the Last Dinosaur?

Doug?

Powerpuff girls had an intro song? I don't remember it. Not very memorable then.

"Denver the Last Dinosaur" was memorable. Good. Not a whole lot more than that. :sneaky: It wasn't one of the great ones.

Anyway, I'm not saying there are no good intro songs from '90s cartoons, but there started to be fewer and fewer new shows with good intros or any intro at all.

Imagine Star Trek TNG with no intro!

Heaven help me, the soundtracks and music they put into the "dub" of Sailor Moon sounded leaps and bounds better to me than the Japanese original. I think one of the tracks they played with the piano in some episodes were especially emotional. And while I'm glad I could see the uncut 2 episode Japanese original finale that ended queen Beryl, the edited down American version with redone tracks feels like it has a much more exciting climax. Even if the plot leading up to it didn't make as much sense...

Robotech was another example where the editing of episode 27 of Macross, dubbed into Force of Arms, lead to a significantly more exciting sequence through the shuffling of events and different music.

I can see that.

Heck I love the G Force intro more than any original Battle of the Planets intro.

That was a good one, I still sing it to myself sometimes.

"Living in the LAAAND of the LOOOOST. LAND OF THE LOST!"

In regards to ones I sing to myself I am also partial to the one for the 90's Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.

"He's the fastest thing ALIVIEIVE!"

That is my ringtone.

It wasn't just cartoons that had good theme songs though.

This is a story all about how...

Magnum P.I.
Dallas
Scarecrow & Mrs. King
Greatest American Hero
The A-Team
Star Trek: TNG
Airwolf
Cheers
Knight Rider
MacGyver

Mike Post was very prolific in the '80s...

[edit]
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Tuuurtles!"
"Feel the thunder. Hear the roar. Thundercats are loose!"

I just about died when that came on television. I was plucked in front of the tv for the very first airing of the pilot and never missed an episode, all the way up to Doomsday. I remember waiting... and waiting... and WAITING. YEARS For the next episode. This was before the internet when you could just look up instantly that something was canceled. Also, I was a kid. :'(

It really was a wonder that show turned out as good as it did. It's perhaps the only "good" story Sonic ever had. Sonic was basically so hot with the first two Genesis games that Sega was basically handing him to toy makers and comics people and show makers, a stage play and all sorts of companies and merchandise makers and you saw all sorts of kinds of incarnations of the Hog'. (some much better than others) Sega exerts so much control over their properties today that you'd never see them outsource Sonic to anyone that would do anything interesting with him ever again. It's too bad.

After having kids, I saw the DVDs on sale. They really need to remaster these and upscale them to 16:9. I was disappointed with the quality.

I'd be happy if they'd just release the rest of the series. Apparently Disney stopped one volume short on a number of DVD releases (Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, etc.).
