i think the character is funny

now that i've worked on several dell towers and own a dell notebook i would only suggest buying a dell to someone who doesn't plan on working on their machine themselves

i would never buy a dell tower

Why do you find it insulting? Its not like hes playing someone stupid. I find it kinda entertaining and I am not even its target audience (Im 35). Do all things related to computers have to be sterile and full of geek crap? Do we all have to be the "Comic book guy" from the simpsons to be into the world of computers? Must we all know the official rules to Dungeons and Dragons? Get over it.

I find it entertaining, but it is funny/insulting for computer enthusiasts because most of us build our own computers, and we know we could build something a lot better than what dell could offer on those commercials for the same money. (not because it's not geeky enough for us to like it) But if I were to buy retail, it would have to be dell, dudes

I think its a good ad campaign. The guy is funny and charismatic. And as far as Dell's go... they're respectable... I mean... it's a whole lot better than the ad saying... Dude, you're gettin' a Compaq! That would be a true insult.

Personally I like the ads. The character just seems likeable to me. Even though it's all just a fake commercial, it's cool to see somebody so insanely excited about their computer. Lord knows that I'm not nearly as in love with my rig. And I have a nice rig. Athlon 1700+, 256DDR, etc. etc.

I have a gateway (PII 300 32mb ram and a 2.5gb hdd) and I didn't have any problems that where not user based and the only time a tech came to my home was to change out a cd-rom drive. Shoot that gateway was one tough mofo it went thur a fire in the room next to it and is still running the only thing is i can't get the auto shut down to work and the soot marks on the tower.

Actually, it's getting a lot harder to beat Dell on pure cost alone, esp. when you figure in the software, AOL, etc.

I believe if AOL is preinstalled you're supposed to subtract about $100 worth of value.
