According to www.RUPissed.com, a 25yo 6' 180lb (ish, rounded to metric for the site) man would be at a .286 after drinking a 24 pack of light beer over a four hour period.

that was an associate of mine in the dorm my freshman year. He was ~20, though, and probably on the plus side of 200lb. (former high school Football player).

Every night, after class, it was an 18 pack of Coors light, sitting on the couch, watching baseball or whatever game was on. Every. Damn. Night.

What was hilarious, though (considering the assumed nature of his personality/history), was the complete lack of belligerence on his part--or moreso, the apparent lack of any effect of alcohol after 18 light beers within 4 hours. Maybe that was just his normal state, though? :hmm:

His mantra was always "I don't get drunk." But God forbid he go one evening without his Coors during those years.

That's a good law. In any accident where the driver is at fault and causes damage to public property like that the driver should have to pay the cost of replacing it. I could make an exception in cases where it is really a no fault accident (maybe a tire blowout or an accident caused by an animal running into the road) but at fault accidents really should be paid 100% by the person that committed them.

I agree.

Somewhat unrelated, but in the "how the fuck is this legal" category, my mother spun out on a curve along interstate 40 driving from Durham to Burlington (NC) on a really rainy day. She wasn't speeding, just skidded on this curve on what she later learned to be a very notorious spot on the freeway.

she ran off the road, shredded a guard rail and totaled her car. No injury, but the county sent her a bill for the fucking guard rail--this being a spot that has received several public complaints regarding safety (grade and susceptibility to flooding (unmarked)), with a significant amount of accidents filed.

I mean...for serious. I do believe a pal lawyer of hers got the county to go shove the charge up their collective asses, though.

It's called being a functional alcoholic. They may not feel drunk because they are in that state a majority of the time and their body has adjusted. They are affected, just not as much as a normal human being.

I would have gave her a ticket for to fast for conditions. In NC if there is an accident with damage greater than $1000 someone has to get a ticket. I have only had one where I didn't give a ticket because there was no witnesses. Someone ran a red light but no one would own up to it.

She was going under the speed limit, iirc. My mom is anything but an aggressive driver.

She does this drive all the time, so it's not as if she is unfamiliar with the road or driving in such conditions. It was just one of those freak incidents involving a little unseen flooding.

Let me be the first. What kind of major league dumbf*ck do you have to be, to get a 6th DUI. I could possibly excuse one, but after that you just have to be plain stupid. I sincerely hope your drivers license is revoked permanently. What a waste of human life.
Of course if this report is a fabrication intended to draw out nasty comments such as mine, then it worked. Sober up, there is more to life than drinking, and trying to kill someone with a vehicle.

You are stupid.

I had an arrestee with a BAC of .34 . I have to take him to the hospital to get treated before they would book him due to the high BAC. The guy crashed his wife's Yaris into a light pole and still had his foot on the accelerator.

The last DUI arrest I had I was in plain clothes. The girl fell asleep in the left turn lane on a MAJOR intersection. At first I thought he/she was just texting and missed a light cycle. After the 3rd light cycle I laid on the horn. No response. I got out of my unmarked and walked up. Female was asleep with her foot on the brake. Had a marked unit pick her up. BAC .22. It was DUI #3 for her with her last one occurring 2 weeks prior :\
HOLY FVCK

PLEASE tell me the guy in your pic at the top is in the hospital with many broken bones and, God willing, won't be able to walk again without a limp, stupid c**t.

How fast she was going doesn't matter, it's to fast for the road conditions. Considering you are saying she lost control of her car due to the wet and/or standing water on the road it would appear she was going to fast for the current conditions of the road. I'm not saying she was canyon carving in the rain or driving reckless, shit happens some times but in NC she still has to get a ticket. As long as her insurance company fixes the damage to the state property they will dismiss the ticket in court. That is the main reason for the requirement to cite, so the victim gets their car fixed. Once that is done they will dismiss the charge 90% of the time.

I thought everyone would know jlee is a cop now. Guess not.

And everyone is ripping him apart...

Not every knows everyone here, and with a subject line of "DUI #6 yesterday"....

No mention of him being a cop, just a "don't drink and drive people" comment.

:hmm:

I'm going to change my avatar to a cop car and see what kind of mischief I can get away with

yeah, it was dismissed after insurance dealt with it. I thin the main problem with her spinning out is that the standing water wasn't obvious; she's the type to go 10 below or more if the conditions are heavy enough. But I wasn't there, so I don't really know.

What gets me, though, is that the spot alone is notorious according to the EMTs and police that arrived. No notice of dangerous curve or slower speed around turn, though. The guardrail gets wrecked on a regular basis, with seemingly little incentive from the county to address the problem with that turn. Not that I know if anything can actually be done about it--but it's still rather strange.

This was several years ago, btw. The county's response wouldn't have been influenced by recent budget "issues."

There was a section of I695 around here that had the same issues. The dipshit engineers superelevated(curve banking) the road the wrong way in a turn, presumably to shed water. That caused people to lose traction, and slam into the jersey wall. They ended up cutting out that section of bridge deck and doing it right.

Two lessons here. Just because someone has a degree, it doesn't mean they know what they're doing. You can't trust roads to be correct. You have to look at what's going on, and judge for yourself. Speed limits are arbitrary in both directions. The road may be faster, or slower than what's posted.

i've really never understood why people drive drunk. Between all the pictures of people who've crashed youd think people would wisen up. I work on for the DoD on the US Navy's ships and it always amazes me. Once a carrier pulls in (with 2500 sailors or so on board) it usually takes a week before they have a car from a DUI from a sailor. Completely totaled. The worst are when they tell what happens cause half the times it tells of the drunk hitting someone else and causing injury. The two two were bad. First was one from a sailor on a submarine, he got drunk in Seattle, got on I-90 going the wrong way and collided with a box truck. Truck driver was injured but ok. Sailor wasnt so lucky. Second was a sailor on a motorbike. A crotch rocket. Heard he survived but not how bad he was hurt. bike was crushed into the size of a folding chair (if you could imagine a folding chair being a box lol)

I guess i am odd but every time i go out i preplan to take a cab home. or we have a DD (usually a cab cause whose not going to drink when everyone else is lol). i simply write on a piece of paper all our addresses and give it to the bartender with my debit/credit card for my tab. Once i cash out the note says to call a cab, bartender does, and viola cab driver has all our drunk asses addresses and can get us home quickly and safely. And usually gets a big ass tip cause drunks cant do math, let alone one person has already paid before handing him more money . Best was in Bozeman, Montana. They had a cat cab. For $1 they would pick you up from a bar or where ever and drive you home. Cant beat that!

Guess im the abnormal though for doing shit like that.

On pretty much every base I've been stationed the Captains number one priority was reducing DUI's. Its epic some places. Ridgecrest in particular.

I've never really trusted those online calculators. According to those calculators, most of them say I should be dead or probably hospitalized for alcohol poisoning. I've never had either. Maybe I'm just lucky. Luckily those were just college days and those days are over.

I'm also lucky, that my drunken self had always called a sober DD for rides whenever I drank. Even if I couldn't remember the night, I somehow made the call.

"Should be hospitalized" doesn't mean "is hospitalized".

There's no way I'd be remotely near functional at .3. You might be surprised at how high your level is, though - we had a guy a while back go to the hospital around 3-4am and come back for booking that afternoon (about 12 hours later, give or take)...and he was still at .17.

.17 in mid-afternoon...left over from drinking the night before, is pretty drunk, IMHO.
