why not just save $39,700 (and thats just for the first year) and buy the damn thing yourself if you want it so bad. I would be pumped if I was going there already and then they announce this, but its just a perk to get more people to enroll there. You're pretty much paying for the thing anyways in your tuition :-/

No ones going to go to duke because they are givina away ipods. I'd imagine if you can afford $40g a year you can afford an iPod, or already own one.

But regardless, its not going to boost enrollment, or applications. Duke is a great school and thats why people apply/go there. There are schools that give away laptops, etc - I dont think it boosts anything, and obviously, its a part of tuition - a $300 gift doesnt make a $40,000 bill any more appealing.

I hate their sports programs though........

very few students at private schools pay the full listed tuition. There's tons of scholarships and grants given out. It's probably still more expensive as public schools, but not near as bad as it looks. Not that this has anything to do with the thread...

Financial aid is really nice nowadays. It's not the rich kids going to good schools.. it's the qualified ones.

MIT costs 43k a year, and I only have to pay 5K

The financial aid packet from duke was similar.
