if a automatic weapon is out of ammo will it click click click click or will it just click once?
It will click one as the hammer or firing pin drops. Since there is no round to cycle the action, it's done.
So does a modern mini-gun really fire by rotating the cylinder? The cylinder rotating actually chambers and let's the pin fall on the round behind it?
Inquiring minds want to know. Does a mini-gun go "whir, whir, whir" as in Predator or not?

firing from multiple barrels has a purpose. it spreads the heat produced over several barrels, instead of just one. it allows for sustained firing for longer periods.
edit: whoa, i totally misunderstood your post. i guess it would depend on which system you're referring to? something like a door gunner on a blackhawk, or a phalanx defense system?
according to this, the external power source one might be able to spin freely. but at least one incarnation relies on gas scavenged from firing, so it won't.
I'm working on a movie its dark so you dont see a mechanism and its a smg of some kind. It is out of ammo trigger pulled and held. I am doing the sound effect.
Must be a really high budget movie if the effects supervisor has to ask a question on an internet forum before he can do his job.

I guess an assisted action like a minigun would be different but I'm no expert on their operation. I think the rotating cylinder actually sets the firing pin and round chambering which is why they're so dangerous. Just rotating the cylinder can fire a round.
Depends entirely on the weapon. Most of the time there will be a bolt hold open engage when the magazine is empty, so there will not be a final click. The bolt simply is held to the rear like in the m16.
Belt feed machinegun like an M60, yes I believe there is a final click as the hammer drops on an empty chamber.
like guns with no recoil. that always bugs me.
:sneaky:donotaim it at your head.
grrrrr this. I was watching some stupid adams family movie on TV and this chick fired a huge hand gun with bent elbows in sort of a stereotyped girl way. That would probably fly back and hit her in the face in real life. Guns like the .45 will kick your ass if you're not holding onto it properly.
:sneaky:
Eh, my friends girlfriend shot my kimber ultra about a month ago and I turned my back for just a second, turned back around as she was pulling the trigger with her face barely a foot away from the back of the gun and her elbows bent. Scared the shit out of her but didn't hit her or anything. She's only about 4'11" lol.
Now with a 44 mag or 454 or 500...You'd have a broken nose.
But in Counter-Strike my M4 goes click-click-click-click. So does my AK-47. Therefore it must be true.
