They updated it with the Lightning connector and a faster processor and announced it at the same time they announced the mini.

Not a dumb question my friend. I get that a lot at work. (I work selling electronics) LOL

Now the 4th Gen iPad came out along side the Mini but I was just overshadowed by the mini. The 4th Gen ipad has the same exact retina display, screen size and overall design as the previous one. However, the new one just sports an A6X chip rather than the old A5 as well as the new Lightning connector instead of the 30-pin.

This is incorrect. There is a 4th generation 10" iPad with an A6X and Lightning connector. I used one at a store today.

It's a whole new generation. They're calling it "4th gen" even though it had only been 7 months since the 3rd generation model was released.

At least now the product release cycles can be better synchronized.

Had no idea a 4th gen iPad came out with the mini. Got zero press I guess, and if a slightly faster chip and that stupid new port are the only changes I can see why. I am Jack's disappoint.

What else would you expect? NFC? Inductive charging? Just curious.

I think A6 and Lightning are enough. We'll probably get inductive charging a generation or two from now. Apple has an obligation to properly support this new Lightning connector.

Already 5 devices support it:

• iPod nano
• iPod touch
• iPad mini
• iPad 4th gen
• iPhone 5

considering buying one and, with apple, a good understanding of the product cycle is always helpful
