Dumb Memory question

I have a board using pc3200 I was wondering if it was possible to use higher rated memory for the purpose of overclocking. The board is only rated to use up to pc3200, in my travels I noticed a few articles talking about how to use a higher speed memory in order to raise your FSB speeds and it should cause you less problems when overclocking. Any thought or advice on this please help, I have been comfterable with my OC 2.6@3.05 nothing extreme but stable, wondering if I can get more out of it if I really wanted by upgrading the memory.

reducing multiplier and increasing fsb is made easier with ram that can take higher frequencies. pc3500,3700 and so on can take higher freqs. pc higher-than-3200 will allow you to raise your fsb and make overall system performance faster.

Yeah that's what I understood, so in other words I could do this with my board even though it's only rated to take pc3200 will it take higher

Yeah, probably. Boards, like most memory, are rated to JEDEC standards rather than what they can actually tolerate. Most mobos will be able to run memory at well above DDR400, though of course it depends heavily on what board you have.

And what Bushman was talking about was running a memory divider, keeping your memory at or below DDR400 while pushing your FSB further. Because you're running a 2.6 at 3.05, I'm guessing you're already pushing the FSB, though, unless you've somehow got an unlocked P4. More detail might help us, help you.

It will always take higher, but it will run at 3200 until you OC the FSB.
