Dumb question... A7N8X Deluxe & serial ATA

If I change the jumper from the SATA raid will it just recognize one drive at a time (C:, D: )??? Or do I leave it as is??? I have a Highpoint Raid 404 PCI card for my first two drives but have no more IDE slots for my third WD 120 gig HD. I have the adapter and etc. to do this if possible. Thanks

Also what is the deal with the ethernet ports? I cannot connect to internet in either one of them...??? I have to install my NIC card to to do this. Is that the way it is supposed to be? Is the two onboard ethernets JUST for local networks (LAN)???

You can only connect to the internet using the onboard ethernet ports if they are working properly and if they are configured properly. If they are not then you won't be able to connect to anything.

Can you give me tell me or give me link to configure them. I tried the utility disc to no avail and it is set to enabled in bios. I am at a loss here. Sorry to be asking such dumb questions this is my first time I have changed out a motherboard. I am just happy to have it up and running. Thanks again.

Try running the Add New Hardware applet in the control pannel. The lan ports should be detected and the drivers should be installed at this point. Since the Asus uses both the NForce MPC lan and another Gbit lan chip you might have to load two different drivers or they may autoload if you allready ran the software installer. The lan ports may also have been installed but with improper drivers - use the "change driver" button in the device manager, pointing to the proper drivers on the setup disk.

platoface, you may be up against your ISP, not your motherboard. Each NIC, whether onboard or add-in, has (or is supposed to have) a completely unique "signature" called a "MAC address." Your ISP might be holding one Internet Protocol (IP) address for your home, in which case it's probably been reserved for the NIC you were originally using, which is identified by its unique MAC address. Try this:

• With your add-in NIC in the system, click Start > Run and type cmd, then hit the Enter key. w00t, you got a command-line prompt
• Now type ipconfig /all and write down the Physical Address for your add-in NIC
• Now go into your BIOS and have the nVidia LAN mimic this Physical Address (leave out the dashes and just enter the ...oh DARN, they don't seem to include this option on the A7N8X-Deluxe, unlike my 8RDA+ Ok, plan B: go to your command promt window and type ipconfig /release, then shut the system down and remove the add-in card. Plug your cable into one of the onboard NICs and see if it will now work for Internet access.
