Dumb Question on Fury X radiator mounting

My XFX Fury X just arrived this afternoon, and I'm going to install it sometime this week (going to swap my Z68/2500k for a X58/X5670 since my board seems to be crapping out) in my Coolermaster case (need to look up the model). Does it matter whether the radiator is above or below the pump for optimal noise reduction? Also, any issues with the hoses being on the bottom (mounting the radiator vertically on the back of the case)? I would assume the answer to both of these questions is that it doesn't matter, but figured I'd ask anyway.

I also have a Crossover 43" 434K coming that was supposed to be here tomorrow, but the UPS page said there was some sort of "mechanical failure" holding things up. I can post pictures when everything is set up.

For noise, radiator should be above the pump so there isn't any air/bubbles in the pump (air will go to highest point). It shouldn't matter if hoses are at the bottom as long as hoses above the pump.

Let us know if you are getting pump noise as well... curious if they finally pulled all the bad batches or not.

Will do. Should have it up and running by the end of the week. I haven't listened to what the pump noise sounds like. Is it a drone, or is it more of a whine? I got mine from Best Buy FWIW. If it has problems, I'll RMA it. I registered it on the XFX website today just in case. It also came with a personal activation code, but it doesn't seem to be good for anything. Does XFX maybe give something away later, or is it useless?

Will post back with feedback and pictures. Hopefully the UPS will bring the monitor soon, but it seems to have stalled now. Guess they only have one plane going out of Korea.

Looks like today was a good day. My X5670 came in (delivered to a newly-built house across the street...), and so did the Crossover! I took build pics as I had to take the Fury X apart to do the build (more on that later). I'm installing a fresh copy of Windows 10 and will post pics tonight or tomorrow.

Oh, I forgot to add that I haven't heard any pump noise, but I haven't had the machine on very long. I did notice some black stickers on the box covering something (maybe XFX anticipated an 8GB model when they printed boxes). I haven't peeled the stickers off to see what's underneath. Not sure if this indicative of old stock, but I got it from Best Buy, and it seems they keep selling out, so I guess maybe it was from a new batch.

If you got an XFX card from Best Buy, the sticker is probably just about the "lifetime warranty exclusively at Best Buy!" Which I believe is on almost all XFX cards anyways, regardless of the retailer...

Edit - Nevermind, looks like XFX has a 2-year warranty on cards bought from other retailers.

That's good news on the whine. Most people should hear it as I think annoying pump sound has frequencies around 10khz, sound is not loud so non windowed case may dampen the sound. I just returned my XFX Fury X (with pump whine) to Best Buy retail store(thumbs up to CS as I was in and out in a few minutes) hoping new stock has fixed pumps. Please let us know if Freesync works with the Crossover.

Looks like BBZZDD is down, and I can't figure out how to embed OneDrive images, so here's a link to the pictures I took:

https://onedrive.live.com/?id=2BCDEAC7536D2700!103&cid=2BCDEAC7536D2700&group=0

I couldn't find a good place to mount the radiator that didn't interfere with anything in stock form (hit the RAM with where it's at), so I took the fan off and mounted it on the top of the case. This required surgery on the Fury X to pull the fan power plug and reroute it. The cover on the card uses shallow allen head screws, which were a PITA to take out and screw back in, but I managed to do it without stripping anything.

As far as FreeSync goes, I don't think the firmware has been released, but they did release the update for the 494K, so I'm sure it's not far behind.

The reason I swapped boards and CPU's is because I thought the Z68 board was flaky (power offs during games and dropping drives connected to it causing BSOD's). Looks like it's my HX850 as it's still powering off and then back on during just YouTube videos now. I'm going to put in an RMA request tomorrow.

Get CPUID's hwmonitor, and check the voltages, and then run something like OCCT or something like that, so you can see if they are stable or not.

Here's the AMD suggestion for mounting the 295X2 a similar water cooled card.

As the picture shows i would put the tubes down to ensure a steady supply of water to the pump.

Good luck OP.

Thanks for the suggestion on OCCT, Elixer. I ran a test, and there were some unexpected dips on the 12V rail. This might be the culprit. Back to the factory it goes... Guess I can sell the Z68/2500k after verifying it with another power supply. No big deal. I'm just out the $85 I paid for the X5670 since I already had the board and RAM.

The monitor came with a remote, but all the words on it are in Korean. Most of the on-screen menu as in Korean as well, but I was poking around to try and turn down the brightness a little to see if it flickers or not (shouldn't since it's not PWM), and I came across the FreeSync setting. I of course turned it on, but I won't be able to test until I get the power supply replaced. Guess I didn't need a firmware update after all... What's a good way to test FreeSync anyway? Just load down on settings and see if it's smooth when the frame rate dips? Other than turning on the setting in the monitor, is there anything to do in CCC? I don't see any options.

RaulF, thanks for the suggestion on the mounting. This is the way that I originally wanted to do it, but the radiator and CPU heatsink are too big to play nicely together. I like the option I went with just fine now (hopefully I don't have to take out the Fury for RMA purposes as it will be another PITA). Once I turned on the fan management in the BIOS, everything is dead silent. I have to look at the power light to see that it's on when I enter the room. Before, those 5870's clearly let me know it was on.

If anyone wants to see some benchmarks or get other feedback once I get the power supply replaced, let me know. The only current game I play is BF4. I don't have a lot of time for games, but I had to keep downclocking my 5870's (seems it was likely also a power supply issue), so I figured what the heck.

Looks like even though there's a FreeSync option in the monitor menu, doesn't seem to enable the option in CCC. Looks like a firmware update might still be needed. I also only get a 6 and 8 bit color option, although 10 is supposedly supported.

Have a cross-shipped HX850i on the way that should be here Friday. Should be able to do a couple quick tests on Saturday.

I had that issue too with BenQ monitor on windows 10 when windows 10 installs driver. Installing AMD drivers using AMD installer fixed that issue for me. After driver install and reboot a popup will appear saying Freesync detected (still need to enable it via CCC).

I installed the 15.7.1 driver before enabling it, but no dice.

I've been following this link, which indicates that the 434K firmware is still in testing:

http://www.overclock.net/t/1565292/owners-crossover-434k-494k-10bit-ips-4k-uhd-dp-60hz-43-49

Not sure if it's in the menu and working, just in the menu, or if there's something else not right. I'll wait and see if they release a new firmware. Sure would be nice to have the menu in English to see if there's something I'm missing. Off to learn Korean...

How can someone who owns a fury X, that isn't familiar with what a pump whine sounds like, determine if it is has the pump whine issue?

It's a high pitch whine around 10khz so you should be able to hear it if case is open. Youtube link of sound at 5:36 mark https://youtu.be/FJU13aM-Msg?t=336.

If you open the Fury X and you have the embossed sticker like this then most likely don't have the pump whine version

The pump whine version would have this sticker:
