Dumb question time on a Radeon 9200.

Folks,
I've never messed with any Radeons higher than a 7000 until now. I've got a 9200 128MB AGP that just won't act right. Running WinXP home and in device manager it shows two Radeon 9200s - one is listed as secondary, the other one shows a conflict. When you go to display properties and check adapter it shows the manufacturer, and chipset info, etc as "unknown" This happens whether I use the drivers that came with it or the latest drivers from ATI. I've tried updating the drivers on both with no sucess. If I yank the card and revert to the S3 Savage integrated video everything acts just fine. Think this might be a bad card?

your motherboard has onboard sound? did you disable the onboard sound and uninstall its drivers with a drivercleaner before installing the new card?

Well, it's normal for 2 cards to show in device manager if you have a card with dual RAMDACS.

The motherboard has onboard S3 Savage video which has been disabled. I haven't uninstalled the drivers since this is an OEM system that belongs to a friend. I'm worried about him using the onboard video if he switches back sometime down the road. LTC8K6, thanks for the info on the dual RAMDACs, I didn't know that. I did uninstall the Radeon and just for my own info I installed a GeForce 4 MX420 and installed the latest nVidia drivers - works flawlessly. So I believe I, or I should say my friend, has a bad Radeon. Especially that business with the one Radeon showing a conflict. Thanks guys.

Hey guys, now I'm really stumped! I just tried to install a brand new Radeon 9200 for my buddy and the same crap happened! We were so disgusted that we just installed a GF4 MX420 and said the hell with it! Is there some kind of ongoing problem with WinXP and the Radeon 9200s?

You are going to have to get a driver cleaner to get rid of the drivers. If you are weary of doing this on your friend's computer, barrow his card and put it in your computer or another one to show that it works. After u know for sure that its his machine, then I'm betting he will trust u more to work on his machine with the required more drastic actions.

I might consider a "driver cleaner" if it weren't for the fact that even the newest ATI Catalyst drivers had no effect whatsoever.
