This one!

I found it on ECS Knowledge database forum

I just bought a new Athlon XP 1600 and ECS KS5SA motherboard and installed it on my machine with 384K of PC133 RAM, an ATI Radeon LE, and an Enermax 350W power supply.

It would not boot at first, and there was a burning smell from the Athlon. The chip was hot (I had no fan on it). Taking the Athlon out, everything seems to work, though there is no beep when powered on and I guess you can't see the bios without the processor plugged in. Just sent back the Athlon for a new one from Newegg and was wondering why the chip might burn out and if this has happened to anyone else?

I had a lady at work ask me last week to help her open a file from a friend of hers. Just so happened to be the christmas.exe virus which also did its work on her computer in front of me.... Her excuse for not using virus scan was that her friend would, "NEVER" send her a virus, because she trusts her friend.

Ah, if that was all it took.

"The system is not stabilizing"
"Is everything plugged in?"
"yes"
"what is the reading on the power supply?"
"can you come in here?"
"can you tell me the reading on the power supply?"
"just come in here"
*spend 10 minutes entering clean room*
*notice no reading on the power supply in question(HP 3631 iirc)*
*plug in power supply*
*spend 10 minutes exiting clean room*

Repeat this 4 times in one week:
"reference voltage fail"
"Did you try a different wire?"
"yes"
"and everything is plugged in, right?"
"yes"
*repeat clean room entering*
*plug in little extention cable that was added to save wear and tear* (right in plain view)
*exit*

4 times in one month someone managed to shear off a 1/4 phono plug that was plugged into a piece of equipment that shouldn't be moved. I've never seen a 1/4 phono plug sheared off.

...and we PAY these people! Yes, these are people that the company I work for hired, trained, and they STILL can't read an error message on the screen, and neither can thier manager.

Some lady called into an ISP that my friend works at for tech support and asked if she started checking her e-mail through the ISP's Webmail instead of through Eudora if her e-mail address would change.

That was months ago and we still make fun of that caller. Ho hum

Actually, it's pretty easy. Just set your price @ $50/hr. or more, and people automatically assume you know what you're doing. Fortunately, I do, and get repeat business, but if you don't, at least you'll get some good pay up front

"You mean to tell me that when I press this button the cdrom will come out all by itself"
yes sir!
"wow, that's really cool" (continues pushing the button for like 3 minutes in utter astonishment as the cdrom opens and closes)

Good Afternoon and Merry Christmas!!
The point is that people here who are making fun of others are far from perfect themselves.

So there I am, standing at a computer store browsing around. A guy goes up to the sales clerk and ask ..

Guy - "You know this thing called Internet?"
Clerk - "Yes, sir ..."
Guy - "Does the Internet fit inside floppy disks?"

you don't have to be connected to the internet for PCanywhere to work.

i've never used it myself. but i thought it was a direct dial program.
